Text to Speech

I've been having trouble certain Japanese speech patterns (soku-on & choo-on), and the trouble mostly lies in hearing the difference. The product I bought only gives a handful of examples, and this is a neccessary skill before moving onto vocab and grammar.
At any rate, that Sitepal ad came up on an HTML site I was reading, and just to mess around I tried it (again). I realized my Japanese woes could be solved with a little speech to text program. However, any site I find dealing with text to speech deal with stuff I can't really get my head around. Does anyone know more about text to speech, and perhaps getting it to work with Japanese?
For the moment, I'll just be visiting Sitepal a lot.
