The situation is serious. We've seen two dry winters in a row across the whole of the South-East. It is only during the winter months that rain gets a chance to seep down into the ground and fill underground water sources that feed boreholes and rivers.
A ban now will help protect the environment and may avoid the need for more serious measures later in the year. If we don't get much rain, we may have to restrict non-essential use in other ways too (such as banning the watering of golf courses and parks and the use of car washes).

Used to be with Thames Water when In England. Now I live in Scotland and there is more water both above and below than needed I can assure you!

Oh well, a hose pipe ban again... No big news down south. There were very few years I can remember when I was down south that there weren't hosepipe bans...

Bah!! Thats nothing!!! Come down here to Australia where we're in level three water restrictions in NSW. ONly allowed to hose gardens between 6pm - 10am on wednesday and saturady, can only wash your car with a bucket on the lawn. No sprinklers, drip irrigation etc. Not allowed to hose hard surfaces... this had been for nearly 3 years... its much worst in the hotter climates where you can't use the tap without taking off the padlock first

Seems to be a worldwide problem but here in Perth(Australia)domestic usage is in the region of 12%.

Now how do you justify telling us punters to pull our belts in,so to speak? Why are we being asked to deliver a reduction in usage?

Sure we need to be water conscious but who exactly should be targeted?
