Has anyone in these forums had it?  I am thinking of getting it when I am old enough, but I have heard there are some problems with it...

Unless you really have to, I'd wait before doing anything medical that is new or untested.  If there aren't a bunch of lawsuits in 10 years, I say go for it.

Too high a risk...I've heard several tales of people being made legally blind by a doctor saying they're canidates when they weren't.  On the other hand, a couple of friends of mine got it done and they're fine...

I'm legaly blind without correction.  I have considered it and according to my doc I'm able to get it.  But then I sat down and figured out the ups and downs.  

First of all is the cost, then theres that chance of one little screw up and your completely blind...you sign the papers before hand...you cant sue if they do mess up :-/

Theres still a chance of taking the risk in a few years since there is a chance of me going completely blind eventualy.  But I would rather just wair my contacts and glasses for the rest of my life and go blind slowly then take the chance of going blind in a second or 2

Also it is not a perminit fix.  People I talked to that had it done are back to glasses after only a year or so.  So its really just a waist of money unless its a dire situation

I read most vision impairments are learned.  This explains why vision fixes are never permanent.  Using proper training, you can learn to fix your vision.  Of course your doctor wants to sell you something.  Like glasses.

Works for most and is great after the recovery, but for the tiny few that it doesn't it really sucks.  ::)
Not a pleasant experience to go through though.

Do it the old fahioned way, like Saburo Sakai had it done - with a scalpel and no anesthesia....

Possibly worth avoiding for the time being, particularly if you're thinking of flying professionally. That may all change in the future.

As someone with astigmatism, I beg to differ...

My mother and father have had the surgery 3 times. Every single time my parents have had it done without complications. My father has regained his night vision. My mother on the other hand, gained little from the surgeries and she cannot drive at night or when it gets dark. The surgery im talking about is the LASIK laser eye surgery.
