I don't, but would like to. Like you I have neither car nor license.

I always thought it would be fun to be a part of a search and rescue operation, especially if it involved downed aircrafts.

A worthy type of thing to get into buddy, keep us up to date if this pans out for you in the future..

I was thinking about joining the Coast Guard or Civil Air Patrol if they don't let me into the Air Force, I would love to help people with my flying.  There are lot's of opportunities out there to do similar things.

Your only young once - Do It! I have a friend Bill who is a crop duster. One of very few in our state. He is a very seasoned pilot with well over 8,000+ hours logged. He also flys FS2004 and finds it very frustrating. He says it much easier to fly in realilty than in simulators. This is a guy who spends probably 90% of his time under 2,000 ft. and 50% under 200 ft doing some very demanding flying.

Because FS's in general have only been around for a relatively short period of time your generation has a distinct advantage. All the ground work / time in simulators can really help you when it comes to really flying (his words not mine).

While you can why don't you contact them and find out as much you can (where they fly, pre-flight procedures, navigation, etc.) it would be the best homework you could ever do. When you get your licence you will be way ahead of the curve. I'm twice your age and unfortunately I'm not going back . If I could do it again I would have tried a lot harder to get in the air - for real !

Somehow I don't think it'll involve much flying. Mostly looking for bewildered OAPs and lost children. Still, could be interesting.

How old are you? For various reasons E Services as far as I know have an age limit.

Regardless of that,it is an excellent choice of community service. You'd be surprised how many people all over the world offer themselves to the service of their community and yet you would never know if you stood next to them.

Im 17, but it doesnt say an age limit.. Though you must be able to drive (for obvise reasons) and the driving age here is 17.

By the time i have done my lessons, passed and got a car i will be 18 (bday august) anyway....

One of my good friends (and colleagues) Kinga (she of the magnificent boobs) does search and rescue with her labrador in the event of disasters etc. They've been abroad a couple of times now. It is a worthwhile and rewarding job. Oh and if you manage to get over for a job here you'll probably meet Kinga (and her chest) which REALLY does make it all worth it

Mmm, as Woody says, it would be a little different on our little island. SAR in the event of an aircraft incident would be covered by the RAF/RN/Coastguard, although in most places the police/fire/ambulance service would be there first, probably directed straight to the location by London or Scottish air traffic's Distress and Diversion cells.
