that commerical was different, does new a new spin on things, i never thought UK would be nuclear powered,  of course i have a hard time believeing why  we have nuclear plants period.

If we want to continue using electricity like we do Nuclear Power is the only option. You could literally cover East Anglia in wind turbines and they wouldn't match the output for a single nuclear power station. France is completely nuclear powered, as is Japan. Have they had any problems? Nope. Like it or not Nuclear power is the future as far as energy is concerned.

Believe it or not, in each nuclear power plant, the reactors are surrounded by a super-tough, reinforced, protective shell that can withstand the force of a fully-loaded 747. So, even if a terrorist did hit one, the plane will just simply dissintegrate as it hits the surface. I saw footage of a concrete block withstanding the force of a fully-loaded F-4 phantom [with weapons loaded] raming and only dissintegrating on the surface of the block.

TOUGH luck for the environmentalists.

Oh, did I forget to mention that Friday the 13th has come and gone and no nuclear plant has yet to blow?

sadly thats all figures and estimates, the only way to fnd out for sure is to throw a 747 into it, so until that happens, the risk is always there.

As for nuclear power.  Its a good idea in this energy craving world.  And as a test maybe they should build a reactor (empty) and remote control an empty 747 into it and prove it can withstand that kind of hit.  Then have another remote control 747 and aim it right up the maker of that movies :-X  ...Anyways ::)  They really pushed the limit on that vid imho...theres better ways to express an opinion without bring that kind of memory back to people

That's very true. Terrorists no longer rely mainly on aircraft to do their damage since boarding an airliner has become much harder for them. But that DOESN'T mean that the security at the gates and inside the power plants would be less vigilant.

I watched a show long ago in the History Channel about these facilities. Security is so strict, not even those with the highest level of access to such compunds are permitted to enter the premises with a dangerous weapon. There are even more security checkpoints within the facility than there are DVDs on my shelf. And if a plane can't do damage to the reactors, then I doubt a truck with explosives would even leave a scratch.

I was thinking more hostile takeover... and I don't know which facility they showed on the history channel, but it is a well known fact that many nuclear powerplants (at least stateside) are not nearly as secure as they should be.  Of course, nothing is as secure as it should be
