I think the deadline to file your taxes for Uncle Sam is April. However, I don't fully remember if that's the case.

I heard somewhere that employers must send them out by Jan 31st. I don't know if that's true, so don't quote me on it ;)

To my knowledge, that is true under normal circumstances (make sure they have your viable address or arrange to pick it up in person).

These are from the IRS.gov web site.

W-2 FORMS:

http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc154.html

Deadline to file:

Topic 301 - When, Where, and How to File

April 15 each year is the due date for filing your Federal individual income tax return, if your tax year ends December 31st. Your return is considered filed timely if the envelope is properly addressed and postmarked no later than April 15. If you use a fiscal year (which is a year ending on the last day of any month other than December), your return is due on or before the 15th day of the fourth month after the close of your fiscal year.

If you cannot file by the due date of your return, then you can request an extension of time to file. However, an extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay. You will owe interest on any past

The W-2 forms have already been given out throughout the base of Little Rock so that airmen like us can start cracking. My dad helped with filing the W-2 because he is an experienced account with over 20 years of constant experience under his belt. I know, the base can do it for me for free. But I feel safe having my dad doing it for me just because of his expertise alone. ;)

I've been wondering about it too. For the past two years, my company has been sending them out really early, like early January. But not this year and I was getting nervouse. Also, I suggest that you e-file. If you are single and have no dependants then it's really easy, and there is no need to pay someone to do it for you. There is a fee to file online, but it isn't much.

Does the Airforce not let you see your LESs and W-2s online at mypay.gov?

Yes, they let us see the LES online. However, I'm not so sure about the W-2 because I never bother to even check it. I was too busy typing up posts in SimV. ::)

All of this reminds me that I'm so glad I sold the business last year....  OTherwise, by now I'd have gone crazy printing out clients' W-2s, 1099s, 1096s W-3s and sending them out so they can give/send to employees.

The sad side of it is that now I have to PAY someone to do my taxes!!!
