Sorry to say this friends,
We seem to have a member who likes to send virus attachments to our emails. For reasons of "slander" I will not name this member, however, I HAVE replied to same plus reported the incident to Simviation Administration. I can tell you that the virus type comes in an attachment called "animals" and that Norton picked it up and deleted it (it's a zip file). The virus type is W32Beagle and is very high risk. I haven't closed my email contact option as of yet, but if this happens again, I will have no choice.
Regards to all and be careful,
Bill

Bill are you sure its a member and not the result of a members address book being cloned by a virus and then being used to infect others computers?

It's hard to be sure of the "cloning", however, the person addressed me as phantomflyer81. Now this forum is the only place I use that name, so logic (however scrambled mine can be sometimes

One of the many good reasons to
never put your e-mail address in your Profile...
Lots of dubious characters trawl around Forums looking for e-mail addresses to deliver spam and virus's to...

...!
On a Forum such as this, Private Messages are the ideal way to contact Members, if necessary... ;D...!

Well here's the news folks:
I got all the headers from this character and sent them to his ISP. He's been tracked - and yes he was looking through simviation - now he's been stopped and will be charged with internet abuse. He's in New South Wales, Australia. That's all I can say right now. Thanks to all.
Thanks also to Pete (simviation webmaster) for his help in this matter. Now - I'm getting rid of my email address!
Regards,
Bill

Well I hope he's done. A guy managed to do a company for sending him spam and won a small amount of cash. Good for him.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe ... 562726.stmOne thing I never understand is that, although I believe Pete doesn't give out our email addresses , almost as soon as I put a brand new email up on Simviation spam arrives on it and all my other email addresses (I use just gmail for them all) are fine. So folk must trawl through and dig them out.

That would explain my unusual amount of spam. Despite having a hotmail account, I've never had a problem with that until I came here. I am in no way saying that it's SimVs fault, really it's my fault for putting my adress up where everyone and their dog can get it.

Well,
I've just been contacted by this person's ISP and have been asked if I want to press this matter further into the "legal" arena, possibly getting some sort of "compensation". I don't really want to spend my time going to court ad-infinitum (I'm getting too old for that stuff!) - I have better things to do with my time (like flying Sim and in the real world). It's definitely NOT Simviations fault that this happened! I only wish I didn't have to hide my email address to stop any further abuse as I don't always have the time to log in here to get private replies. I will have a work-around soon, so I will be putting up my email address again in the near future. By hiding it, people like this virus-sender will have "won" their silly games - it's similar to panicking every time a terrorist makes a threat. I refuse to let this incident ruin my liesure time!
All the best folks,
Bill ;D
