No F3 show in 2006....

Hope this is the right place to post this...
For the UK members, it looks as if there is to be no Tornado F3 display on the UK airshow circuit next season. There is also yet again no Nimrod display and it appears the Jaguar had its final season in 2005 as well as there is no plans for a Jaguar display either. :'(

Ah well. We've been spoiled up till now so this was bound to happen at some point. I can see a time when the service contribution to air displays will be confined to the official display teams like the Red Arrows & Blue Eagles. Even they might be subject to defence cuts in the future so enjoy them while you can.

This might have been better in the Real Aviation forum but I have no doubt it will end up in the correct place. ;)

The Nimrod MR4 may and I must stress, may, make its airshow debut next year. They are still behind schedule but if they can get the majority of the testing done in the spring, then it could certainly be at Fairford. Also isnt the Vulcan supposed to return to the circuit next year?

That's what they promised but this has nothing to do with the RAF or MoD. In future it will be the efforts of private organisations that keep these historic types flying.

PS. I think the title of this topic should be changed to 2006.

Oh I know its not the military doing it, but it more than makes up for the loss of those. Personally I have never been a fan of the Jaguars display, its always nice to see it, but its display lacks well everything. The Tornado displays are always great fun to watch, but thankfully if the Gr4 stays flying the shows it'll not be a huge loss. Maybe Charlie could give us an insider info on why they are off the calender? It might just be operational deployment requirements.

I believe the Jaguar is not on the circuit in 2006 due to the types retirement in late 2006 which means Jaguars are going to be harder to get a hold of for displays. As for the F3 it will most likely be costs and ground support availability. I seem to remember that the Nimrod was withdrawn for Operational Commitments.

Thanks for that, silly mistake :-[

No F3?! That's usually the aircraft you can guarantee on turning up! Having been to only one (two if you count the few displays at the Cottesmore family day) display last year, it's a shame I won't be able to see the Tornado (F3 at least) next year. It really does put on a cracking display. Let's just hope the GR4 will be around a bit more, then.

Shame about the Jaguar, too. :(

To be fair, I can only see the RAF display participation dwindling in the next few years. The RAF is stretched enough as it is, and effectively "losing" a crew to display flying for a year takes its toll on a reducing force such as the F3.

The Vulcan is set for a test flight next year but will not display untill 2007. Shame about the RAF types not on display next year but to be honest, I can see these any time I wish. I go to air shows to see historic types so untill they ground every Warbird I'll still enjoy my air show season.

That's fine for me :) I live just a few miles from Bruntingthorpe, so we'll be down their on it's first public flight (which hopefully should be from there).

I know, a great shame that the Jag and F3 are being replaced. :(
But at least they are being replaced by a great aircraft - the Eurofighter!!!

Also, the Sea Harrier FA2 is being removed from the circuit, and being replaced with GR7's, which themselves will probably be replaced with F35's. :)

And about the Vulcan - it is apparently meant to come back in 2006, quote the commentator in the Yeovil Air Day (if my memory is correct.)

Cheers  ;)

Cspyro, I think Hawker is correct on its flight timings for the Vulcan.
