Been sick with the flu really bad the last two days, temp of 102, cant talk and barely able to breathe, thus the flu So I ask someone to cover for me today, So I could go home a little early, what do they do? goto the boss and ask to go home because they were sick despite the fact they were perfectly fine, just to avoid having to work my section. So I have been stuck there even longer, thankfully my boss isn't too bad a guy and let me go an hour early. Still gotta go back in tomorrow though. Anyone else work with people like that?

That'sooo special... you really owe it to them to cough or sneeze in their face while you're still sick.  ;D

Just going to lock them in my freezer back-up. They hate the cold so much we'll see how much they like being stuck in a pitch black box thats -23*s C

That could work. Maybe you should just wait until they're bent over a chest freezer and then ram them from behind with a trolley.......

How about co-workers that got my collegue fired for no legitimate reason except that see pinpointed various mistakes they made, and another collegue that leaves because of the same guys? So I'm stuck in an empty office the whole time, working for 2... and they expect me to be happy? I really don't feel like acting friendly to the people who caused this trouble!

Hang in there Craig... there are still good people out there... it's just hard finding them...

Never mind Craig. It's just another lesson learned & there are still plenty of decent people around. It's sometimes difficult finding them that's all.

Indeed Doug, I am starting to get into it, but the week before christmas is bad enough, when someone cant pick up a little bit of the slack it makes it less enjoyable.

Hi Kris, that sucks, but sounds like alot of office politics that happen. My dads is very simmilar with alot of backstabbing.

When or if you you start throwing up, people will believe you're sick.

When I was in AIT, I came down with something overnight that gave me a high fever and caused me to throw up every few minutes. At first, my drill sergeants thought I was bluffing and simply trying to get out of PT untill I started throwing up during PT, and then once told to go back to the barracks, constantly running to the latrine.

After that, it didn't take long before they knew I wasn't faking it

There was no question of me faking it, I was white as a sheet, sweat dripping off my face and I couldn't talk. Throwing up not nessicary:) Now the other person It would have been nice to see them at least put some effort into looking sick

Some would say you shouldn't have gone to work in that condition. It sometimes makes you feel better to do that but if it's still infectious you could pass it on to everyone else. I always thought it better to stay away but my boss thought the opposite & unless you were at death's door you were expected to turn up for work. I still think I was right.

PS. I don't know the regulations but I would have thought this even more important if you're handling food.

we had 5 people working the shop floor today, myself on freezers, one person fresh meat one on dairy one on grocery and one on fruit and veg. usually we have twice that many, so I had little choice.its that or my stock goes unworked for 2 days the week before christmas which is not an option.

fresh food like produce and meats your not allowed to. same with bakery. everything else is ok.

Craig you started work at the MOST difficult time of the year. It can only get easier. It has been really, really hard where I work, if you think working in a supermarket is bad just try a cheap restaurant (no tips there either!) and listen to people complain like nobodies buisness. It makes me really angry sometimes as they can be so rude, they look at the board which has the prices, go to the till and create a real stink and then turn on me - as if I set the prices! Stupid dorks - can't they do a simply addition sum or didn't they bother to check to see how much it cost?

Sigh, but at least the collegaues there are great. If they wern't it would be unbearable. We are all one big family at work.

Another lesson you need to learn in the University of Hard Knocks. Nobody is indispensible & they will manage without you if they have to. If you were run over by a bus on the way to work there would be no choice in the matter. I'm sure the supermarket would not close because of it.

All the same I don't fancy the thought of someone snivelling all over my frozen chicken. I suppose it's best not to think about these things too much as goodness knows what else goes on behind the scenes.
