Whoops... :o

Seems a little surprising as heavy as this snowfall is that they didnt divert elsewhere.  Theres been a few to many accidents lately.  At least no fatalities in this one :-/

I think i would rather be in the plane insted of one of the drivers.  Seeing a 737 rolling onto the road would be just a little scarey and strange.

:( Amazing there wasn't more injuries. Ironic that it was 33 years to the day of another crash that killed 45 people.

hey they mention WMAQ!!! thats NBC5!!

i prefer NBC over the other news networks in the area.

anyway, the kid died in the car, airport re-opened, and the road has been closed all day.

and no im not going down there, thats a 2 hour drive south, add some snow, make that 3 1/2 hours.

it was terrible out there last night. i helped some guy who had a flat tire in the snow, poor man, he had his spare stolen, so we waited for the cops.

NEVER WAIT FOR A LOCAL OFFICER! you have a better chance of flagging down IL state police rather than a schaumburg officer. my complaint of the day.

from the report that I had read it seemed that the ice on the rwy rendered his brakes useless and thrust reversing caused him to lose what little traction he had. He acclerated from 146 knots to near 180 knots after touching down.

the acceleration , i think, was from the ice providing very very little friction or the pilot tried an emergency touch n go.

darn shame about the boy. heartbreaking. considering the possible alternative though.....

From everything I heard...the plane was in good shape, the runway was acceptable, and the pilot had 10 years experience, and this was his first flight of the day.

Probably a case where it's not really anyones fault..just s*it happens.
