Just a continuation of the "Price of gas thread posted a while back"  ;D

Been looking at ways to reduce the heating oil bill. I have a wood stove but even wood is getting a little scarce around here and a lot more expensive. Recently I found this and the more I look at it the more I like it.

I saw this and for the area we live in I asked myself what do we have this time of year in such abundance that at some times the farmers wonder what they are going to do with it all. Well, we live in cornfield central and I found this little stove product. It burns clean. It actually scrubbs as much carbon monoxide during it's growing cycle as it puts into the air when burned. Costs 4 or 5 times less than oil or gas and will pruduce up to 5 times as much heat per unit as natural gas.

It's a corn burning stove. Don't intend to spam the forum so you'll have to do your own Google to find out about them for yourself. Also note that they aren't for everyone but from my perspective it looks quite economical. I crunched some numbers and found I could heat my whole house for less than $600 a year and even less if I could buy the corn direct from the farmers. Lots of those around here so no prob'. Put mine on order today. May take almost a month to get it in because they are quite in demand this winter. They don't even need a regular chimney. A simple duct like the one on a gas dryer will vent the smoke.

Just thought someone here at SimV might be looking for the same bill reducing I'm doing. After a half tank of oil that cost me $280 I decided to do something about it. We usually go through about a tank a month. Ouch!

We used to have a corn burning stove...Quite usefull.  

But now that we have moved i think i like this one better...

Works well if you have a small house, for around $30 a piece we picked up 3 oil heaters.  One for the living room and one for each bedroom.  They work really well and if you have a fan to put near it then its even better.  Only time we use the furnace is before taking a shower  Sure the electric bill is a little higher (a whole $10 increase) but only a fraction of what the gas bill would have been

I used to have one of those for my bedroom. It was a nice heater. A little slow at heating up a small room, but once warm, it was very effective

Let's see, heating fuel up as much as 50% and electricity up @ 5%. I'm on space heaters, myself.
The electric motor and an extra long extension cord for the vehicle is looking more and more appealing. Maybe we should have slots and electric runs put in all of our roads -- like the old toy electric race car sets.

one of our methods of heating and cooling the house via the central air is only open lower vents in the winter, upper vents in the summer. this works for 2 story houses. it may take a little longer to heat or cool the house, financially its worth the wait.

but mind you im weird. im the same ramos who will open the window mid-january because it's too hot in the house. i like cool during the winter and warm during the summer.
