Can't say I'm too thrilled over the idea of ever becoming controlled like a robot ::)

Yes! I've been wondering if something like this were possible. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of someones remote control, but I would gladly use this thing to simulate G-forces, or the feeling of banking and turning, climbs, descents, ect. The only thing that keeps me from having that "total immersion" feeling with FS is the complete lack of movement, especially now that I know what it feels like to fly a real aircraft.

that would be great for training animals, if its not to cruel.

I think it is scary. What if they develop this technology in such manner that you will not feel the electric current? Than think about how many people are wearing headhones all day (I-pod, Walkman, MP3 players, telephone headsets etc.). Imagine how many people you could control.

Easy Flyer.

Seems like it may be good in your case. Why wouldn't you like the effects of having already been posted? ;D 8)

I'd love to use those on my students to keep them awake during lessons and inflict pain everytime they try and use a mobile ;D

This actually kinda scares me.  I mean, if research continues, the implications could be disasterous! :o

Imagine a world in which every "deviant" of society, all the crazies and anyone the general population deemed unfit to remain in society were subjected to this as a form of control.  It could potentially destroy free will among anyone not willing to "walk the line".  I don't want to live in a world where people are walking around the streets with little headphones on that control what they do.

Imagine a world where the black market has gotten ahold of an advanced form of this technology, allowing any freak with a remote to control the actions (if not the thoughts) of an individual.  Slayings with mass consequences, committed by those closest to the victims with virtually no trace to the user.

Bad stuff all around, although I could see a few ups.

Therapy for people who need to relearn to walk, for instance.  Teaching children with learning disabilities to move in a concerted fashion, etc.

But I still think the cons outweigh the pros.  Just my opinion; I could be wrong. ;)

Travis don't go into teaching unless you like the idea of trying to control the ungrateful little teenage buggers!

Interesting technology there. Anyone remember the movie "Brainstorm"? I can see the detrimental aspects but this is very far from actually controlling thoughts and actions. So far this merely interferes with balance and can be use to make a wearer feel as if he or she is leaning to one side or another. Definate possiblities for flight sims since this is one of the chief things missing.

As for it's uses with learning disabled kids I'm kind of against that at the moment. It has possibilities but so far the best training for them is experience not simulation. Been there done that. I had pretty severe learning disabilities myself and the best advice was from my doctor who said, "Get the kid into any and every activity he shows interest in." I think that's still sound advice and something like this would have to be refined a thousand fold before it would be any better than that sage advice.

Think however what kind of weapon this would make. Want to stop a suicide bomber just zap them with an electrical wave and they totally miss the intended target causing no harm to anyone including the terrorist. Sounds very scifi but not far from some other weapons they are developing. Want to hide something just throw up some camaflage netting to hide it and surround it with a series of transmitters. Anyone coming within range will walk around the installation while thinking they are walking straight. "Sure sarge. I walked right throug that grove of trees and didn't see a thing."  ;D
