Another Tropical storm, named 'Alpha' is forming in the Caribean, and marks the first time a storm has been named using the Greek alphabet.

It's been done in Greek accounts for a very long time.

Who names these things?
Since 1953, Atlantic tropical storms have been named from lists originated by the National Hurricane Center and now maintained and updated by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization. The lists featured only women's names until 1979, when men's and women's names were alternated. Six lists are used in rotation. Thus, the 2004 list will be used again in 2010.

Any chance of getting your name onto that list?

For my name, if you're talking about my real name, it's possible. But as for my other name, no chance in heck.

Here's the link to NOAA -
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml- You'll see the list I used above and how they name storms. It lists all the regions in the world and what the names used are. Under the "Western North Pacific Names", one name about killed me- "Longwang" contributed by the Chinese. Someone in China was quite confident with himself.
