Hurricane season is not over until Mother Nature says so. :(

Or November 30th, which is when it officially ends. Of course if mother nature isn't aware of this...lol...it might get extended.

Next storm will start the Greek alphabet Alpha, so far the need to enter the Greek alphabet has never happened, so hopefully, we won't set another record.

So far we are tied with 1933 for the most storms in one season at 21 and 1969 for the number of hurricanes in one season at 12.

From what I've heard, this many Hurricanes are more the norm...and recent decades are more the exception....

Of course, there are theories that Global Warming is playing a part too.

All I know is that the Winters in Michigan may not be so bad after all.

LOL... better to have to dig yourself out of your house than to have to tread water.

Glad I'm not in that part of the world. I almost bought a holiday home in Florida once. After the last few seasons I think that might not have been such a good idea.

This map has probably been updated since it was posted but I would like to point out that this does not only affect the US & other much poorer countries often get forgotten. Please spare a thought for them too.

Well, consider southern Asia.  A tsunami in the begining of the year, and now, further to the northwest over there, a massive shake.  The ebbs and floes of nature know no political or national boundries.  All we the people on this rock can do is show mercy and compassion for those of us that suffer when these things happen.  In recent years it's almost like the dire predictions in the WORD are starting to pan out.  Or, perhaps these upheavals have always been so prevelant and our technology just makes us more informed faster than ever before.

Its not just record keeping but population growth. For instance the gulf coast is much more inhabited now than it was 100 years ago. Much like large parts of asia, so of course a natural disaster will have a wider area of effect on life.

Per The Weather Channel-

http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/?from=wxcenter_news

"Hurricane Hunters early this morning recorded a pressure of 884 mb, now the lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin. This represents more than a 86 mb drop in just 12 hours! This appears to be one of the fastest pressure drops on record. Winds are now up to 175 mph making this a Category 5 hurricane."

TV companies could make a whole series out of those hurricanes with 24/7 live broadcasts.
"CBS presents: "Survivor - In the eye of the Hurricane" - coming soon!"
