Given the recent screw ups with the 777 software, this kind of gives me the willies...
'We' make a brain - 'It' flies a plane

For some reason, the movie "Stealth" comes to mind.

Well then say goodbye to my dream and dreams of many others, o yeh and a few thousand jobs.
There is no way people would trust a "machine" to fly them around, point being what if the machine failed in flight...I can hear it now LAWSUIT.

Yeah jr I always laugh at people who think machines/computers/AI/whatever will replace pilots within the next 50 years. Maybe sometime in the next 50 centuries

No fun in computers solely flying planes! And as jrpilot said, if it fails, you're buggered!

Ahh computers can fly a plane. Maybe not one computer but we have a master computer with 6 duplicates. Each one with redundnant Power supplys and each one with redundant UPS'. The UPS needs to have battery life to last more than the duration of a flight. There, getting a computer to fly a plane is not the hard part we already have done that. Its getting the computer to fly the plane from point A to Point C with a stop at Point B without hitting anything etc.

Computers are wonderful. They can do things many times faster than the human brain. More precisely and for much longer periods of time than a human. But they still have one critical flaw. They are designed and programmed by humans

My thoughts exactly.

In Japan, for a lot of the routes... computers "drive" the trains. But there always seems to be an "operator" aboard too.
