Just saw on the news that three more tropical storms are headed towards the east coast. Has anyone else seen it?
Also, How long is Hurricane season supposed to last? I don't remember it going on for so long last year

Can I ask.. Who names these hurricanes?

National Hurricane Center in Miami I believe? The names are chosen by the World Meteorological Organization. According to the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Until World War II, hurricanes were given only masculine names. In the early 1950s, weather services began naming storms alphabetically and with only feminine names. By the late 1970s, this practice was replaced with alternating masculine and feminine names. The first hurricane of the season is given a name starting with the letter A, the second with the letter B and so on. According to NOAA, "the name lists... have an international flavor because hurricanes affect other nations and are tracked by the public and weather services of many countries."

Please note:
The names of the most destructive hurricanes are retired. There is a reason for this.
Example: Back in '92, Andrew hit Florida as a CAT 5 [older equipment labeled it as CAT 4] and turned many homes into tooth picks and left countless people homeless and tons of money in damages. The name Andrew was immediately retired from the list.

We could have given them a break if certain human induced meteorological phenomenon were not happening*

**When the word "not" is used, the actual meaning of using the word is opposite of the origional meaning

Hurricanes go in cycles. You have periods of good years and periods of bad years.
I'm not a hurricane "expert" but I've lived in South Florida for 40 years - maybe I am a hurricane expert.
We learned a lot from Andrew.
- Don't charge ecavuees tolls (the Florida Turnpike pinheads clogged the roads by keeping toll booths open)
- Open as many evacuation routes as possible. We have 2 interstate highways that go north. Open all 24 lanes going north.
- Build houses better. The South Florida Building Code was rewritten after Andrew. The largest change was "hurricane straps" on roofs. You can't just nail the roof to the trusses anymore, you have to strap it down with a steel strap.
- Since most people in South Florida are new transplants it doesn't help to warn them - if you live in a manufactured home (mobile home/trailer) don't expect it to be there after a hurricane.
As far as this garbage about human induced phenonema, it's a load of bull. If you're going to lock this over political content this would be a good time to do it.
