Oh No...Not Again

This comes with age...do not worry...it will happen to you all

I am the type of person who goes around the house/yard humming and singing little ditties .

Now most of the time I start off with the right words and then for some reason I start making up words and lyrics.

That really drives the old girl nuts .

But, it is because I have forgotten the words so I just make them up.

NOW to the point of this thread.....there is always a point...right?

Well you have all seen the movies "ZULU" or "ZULU DAWN" as I think that is what the second one was called.

In the movie "ZULU"  the British troops were singing a hymn at least I think it was a hymn.
I do think one of the lines was..."spear points gleaming" or something along that line.

That line has been going off in the back of my mind for two days now and I can't get a grip on the hymn.  I do not dare ask the old girl as she will think I am off my rocker...finally lost all my marbles...etc.

Does anyone remember that hymn?

I belive the hymn is the well-known Welsh march 'Men of Harlech'. Ivor Emmanuel, the famous Welsh operatic singer was in the film Zulu.

(It should be noted that this is one of several known sets of lyrics to Men of Harlech.)

PS. [i]Movie trivia: in the 1963 movie "Zulu!" starring Michael Caine, the Welsh troops sing yet another version of this song, just before the final charge mounted by the Zulu warriors.

"It's a long way to Tipperary" was popular with British troops in WWI although it's an Irish song. The "River Kwai March" is another famous march, 'Colonel Bogey', usually sung with alternative lyrics.

Actually, I had both of them some where/when. Zulu was the 1st produced (by @ 20 years, I think) but the events in Zulu Dawn happened 1st. The guns the Zulus were using in Zulu came from the battle depicted in Zulu Dawn.

We learned 'Men of Harlech' at primary school. There was a big Welsh community in Lancing where I was brought up. They were mostly ex-miners working at the big railway carriage works, until it was closed down by the infamous Dr. Bloomin' Beeching in the 60s putting at least one person from almost every family in Lancing on the dole. That man was responsible for ruining the British railway system at a stroke & I've never forgiven him. Sorry but it makes me so mad to think of it I had to vent my spleen.

'Men of Harlech' sung by a full Welsh male voice choir (as in the film) is one of the most stirring things I've ever heard.
