Is that Katrina Outside, or is it Just Me?

Postby Boomtown Rat » Thu Aug 25, 2005 3:13 pm

Yep, Katrina Just about made Landfall, I live in Wellington, which is central Palm Beach County.  People spent a few days freaking out about this, and how bad it was going to be, blah blah.  It's barely even a hurricane, and it's just raining outside, with medium winds.

Heck, they even cancelled 1 1/2 days of school for this, and yet it's nothing, it's about as bad as a heavy thunderstorm.  Only thing i'm worried about is flooding and maybe, maybe the power going out, which was a huge problem when we got slammed with Frances, and then Jeanne.

Oh, and on another note, for those CFS3ers of you, theres a Mudpond game going on tonight online, just get the mudpond flight models from www.mudpond.us under CFS3 (please don't move this post for that one paragraph  :P  ;D .)

I live about 30 miles south of DataForge22 in Boca Raton and, yeah, it was pretty wimpy.  Windy, rain, but that was about it.

The news/government response has gotten out of hand.  Let's treat everything we can predict as if it's going to be a national disaster and maybe we can save some lives.

Two people died but maybe two people died in the last big rainstorm that wasn't a hurricane.

I get to sit up swilling beer all night because everything will be closed on Friday.  I can play golf on Saturday or Sunday. We need more hurricanes!

A little too quick to judge a storm ;)

Yep, especially with the current category 5 Hurricane status and maximum sustained winds are at 175 mph. Hurricane-force winds extend 90 miles from the center on the eastern side of Katrina, 75 miles to the northwest and 50 miles to the southwest. A storm surge of 20 to 25 feet or more is possible along and to the east of Katrina's landfall point Monday. On top of the water rise, pounding waves of 20 to 40 feet will produce catastrophic damage at coastal locations.

That and New Orleans being at or below sea level doesn't help matters at all.

Feel so sorry for all the folks there. It's one of those things that science just cannot stop, watching it on the news and hoping everything pulls off clean.

Guys, let up, this was posted when it was a wimpy thing, hell, they didn't even predict it to make Landfall in Louisiana yet, just the Florida Panhandle, and even then it wouldn't be too bad.
