I can understand why someone might collect this stuff over the years if the hardware still works.  It's just taking up some space.

What I can't understand is why comeone would pay $8,100 for it, especially if it doesn't include the hardware.

I loved those old Commodore 64 games but I have a (free) emulator and about 3000 (free - not sure if they're legal) games, including Flight Simulator 2.  All of them together take up a lot less HD space than my flight simulator.  But there is no way I would pay $8,100 for the same collection.

When I gave up my C-64 a few years ago I took it, two 5.25 floppy drives, a modem the size of an iPod and several hundred disks to a thrift shop.  It was like taking kittens to the pound - you know they're going to be gassed but as long as you don't see them do it you can believe they went to a good home.

I can understand someone collecting that stuff, hell, people collect some really weird stuff, but paying over $8,000 dollars for it?  That I don't understand.  The most I've ever spent on one thing for a collection was $40.  :P

There are over 2000 games, if it sells for 8100 bucks that would be around $4.00 per game, I 'm sure whoever is going to purchase this lot will probably be some sort of retailer, flea market vendor or possibly ebay store owner and will make their money back plus some profit, I have my doubts that just some guy who plays games is going to drop eight large on a bunch of nintendo games, especially when you consider the amount of duplicates.
