Exchange rates change to much though.

Gas over there is certainly higher.  But there is also better public transport in some areas.  Seems to be unheard of around here.  But also living in a little town in the middle of nowhere doesnt help.  Its 25 miles to the nearest Walmart, decent grocery, etc.  There are small stores in town but they are higher priced for lower quality.  And there is virtualy no jobs available in this town anymore...204 people just lost there jobs because the company decided to move to Mexico.  

I have been working 2 different jobs and drive about 40 miles every morning before school.  Then after this week is over I go back to working after school so there is another 40.  80 miles a day (sometimes more if I have to run to town to get supplies, another 20 miles) working on the farms I have to go after feed and other supplies a lot, so I pretty much had to buy a truck.  

Average 80 miles a day:
560 miles a week.
I get around 15 miles to the gallon:
5 1/3 gallons a day:
Gas is currently $2.69:  
Total comes to $14.35:
7 days a week $100.45:
Paid every 2 weeks.  Tipically make around $200-$250 a week during school.  
So litteraly 1/2 my paycheck now goes to gas.  NOT HAPPY

At that rate, he can squeeze in as much as 100 miles to the gallon. Other models can now even go as far as 250miles/gal.

PS: Still not enough to beat my bike. Infinite miles per zero gallon.

Hybrids and dual fuel cars are certainly a step in the right direction.

And people wonder why I'm like "meh" when they ask me if I want to start driving.... I don't really care for driving, so why not leech of mom n dad for as long as possible?

My dream house would have a wind farm and a roof made of solar panels, and still be jacked into the grid (just incase) I would drive an electric car, but still have a regular old gasoline pickup for moving stuff and driving in icey weather.

Thats my dream, fantasy world. Here in the real world, I drive a little truck that gets pretty good gas milage (I don't know the milage exactly), half a tank lasts me a week not including the 40 mile drive to flying lessons. It would be better if I could figure out were the %$#@& fuel filter is so I could replace it. My job is on the other side of town, but this is a pretty small town. Gas prices arent as bad here as other parts of the country for some reason (payed $2.55 today).  Could be because at one point Saint Joseph Missouri was the hardest hit city in the nation for job cuts/companies moving to mexico. We basically had a depression here. This whole thing boils down to OPEC, untapped oil reserves here in our OWN COUNTRY and other unmentionable subjects.

Here in Toronto, Regular Unleaded is :

$0.98 to $1.02 CDN, which is about 0.90 to $0.95 USD, very expensive for fuel these days !

My family and I are looking into purchasing the new Lexus 400h Hybrid SUV, we can really use the new electric motor !

i can hear the mods searching through their Masterlock drawer right now... just a reminder to keep it clean folks.  ;D remember...Gearhead says "Think before you type" the cheapest in my area is $2.75/gallon. i think i paid something around $32 to fill my 4-banger.  ::)
