LOL

That is really nasty, I can't belive someone would even THINK about doing that. That worst I've gone is probably 2 or 3 hours, and even that's REALLY rare!

Probably got a blood clot in his leg...
But games can definitely ramp up the ol' heartbeat- when I first built this PC, the first gfx card I bought came with a copy of Hit Man 2- very addictive FPS game. I went through a sort of phase where I'd be up all night and flop into bed at dawn with my heart still pounding.
Reminds me- I haven't played that in a long time. Hmmm...

There seems to be so much violence in games these days. Being a peaceful, inoffensive type of bloke I never understood the attraction. It can't be my age as I know Foz enjoys some of this stuff. I must be missing something. ::)

The most violent games I've ever played are CFS1 & CFS2. I soon realised that I'd make a rotten combat pilot & it makes me respect the chaps who did for real even more. Nowadays I use these purely for troubleshooting other people's problems & testing aircraft, scenery & the Fox Four missions. These can make you sweat a bit at times & I'm surprised how easily I get caught up in the excitement. More than once I've had to pack it in for the night before straining something important. It's stupid risking your health for a silly game.

I think the attraction with some of these games and people, is they get to act out something they wouldn't do for whatever reason in the real world. Of course you get some who take it too seriously and too far and then do, whether a game is to blame or not isn't really up for discussion. Lets face it, how many of us really would go out and kill someone?

Even so, shooting at aircraft is one thing. Most combat pilots will tell you they don't think of the poor souls inside the aircraft they're aiming at. There's also the chance they will get out. I don't think I could ever get pleasure out of shooting at a human being, even in a game.

And in the case of the CFS series and other combat flight sims, it gives us a chance to do something few of us would ever get to do in the real world, fly a classic plane but also give you an idea in some cases a very good idea, of what it was like to be a pilot many years ago. Plus you have the added advantage of not having to worry about it, if you get shot.

Maybe the best term to use would be Morbid curiosity? or a morbid fascination? I wouldn't say i get pleasure from doing these things specifically.
