Just got back from glider camp, FANTASTIC 8) Did a lot of great stuff, did a total of six flights. Had some luck with the instructor in that he spoke dutch(camp was in the french speaking part of Belgium, Saint Hubert to be exact). My instructor was extremely experienced, he had 31000 total flying hours :o, so I,knew i was in good hands ;D I did takeoff and followed the tow plane in two of my flights, didn't get to land though :P, Talked to some of the pilots there and learned a lot about GA, there were constantly Cessna's and Diamond a/c doing touch and go's and such and our tow plane's were piper cubs and a piper Pawnee, Overall great experience and definetly going back next year :) ;)
cheers
Antei

Excellent, Antei... ;D...!

Our Hagar will agree that Glider flight is an excellent training for flying powered aircraft...!
...knowing what is going on "outside"... ;)...!

Cheers Mate...!

P.S. One or two of our Members are training in Gliders... ;)...!

Uh gliders :-/

I'll keep my propeller, thankyou very much.  There's a reason you're not supposed to fly with your engine off! ;D

Glad you had fun Antei, sounded like a blast. ;)

...Well done Ant......brings back memories of almost 60 years ago at Doncaster airport...Every weekend spent there for two years with the ATC supposedly learning to fly gliders but most of the time went scrounging flights in TM's ...wish I'd stuck to the gliding course now....BUT....well we were just looking for some fun.........keep at it son.....commoner ;)

Also great practice if the fan suddenly stops. :D

Glider pilots can usually convert to power very quickly & in most cases become above-average all-round pilots. There are many examples in the display & competition world. The same is not necessarily true in reverse. The reason is obvious.

Don't knock the glider, ........as things now stand, the most sophisticated flying machine is a glider, ........

........aka: Space Shuttle !

........anyone ever see one of them make a powered landing or a go-around yet ?  ::)
