good bye Invincible

Well HMS Invincible has returned to port after her final tour of duty, and will now be decomissioned after many years of great service. The Falklands, middle east and many other areas of combat. Pleanty of miles on the clock:) we now only have two carriers left i believe.

Is it me, or does it seem that the MOD/Goverment are slowly reducing the size of our navy? Because when the fleet review was on ther was about 3 warships there that were to be decommisioned.

Invincible was getting on in years. Its just a case of waiting now for them to pull their heads out and get on with the new carriers.

The Invincible is the one with the deck tilted upwards at the end? Always looked goofy to me. ::)

ski ramp, and they all have them. Works out alot easier than a catapult as we dont have anything but harriers in the navy.

Just the same as the Ark Royal and Illustrious...

It was developed shortly before the Falklands to assist the heavily loaded SHARs and Harrier's of the deck by increasing their upward vector...

Lets face it, we are never going to get those carriers and I'll be amazed if we even get JSF. When the Sea Harrier goes, will the Royal Naval Historic Flight have the only fixed wing aircraft in the Royal Navy ??? Swordfish and Sea Fury on HMS Ark Royal.

Alas another brilliant idea by the Ministy of DipshiDipsticks ::)
As one carrier is in overhaul at the moment that leaves us with exactly one carrier currently on extended ops in the Gulf ::) ::) ::)

I think at Fairford they said that very soon there will be no sea harriers

They are being moved as part of the joint operations force, i cant think of the name for it right now.

So let me get this straight, as of 2006 we shall have no fixed wing naval attack aircraft?
