Well next month i am going on holiday with my dad and sister for a few days. It turns out we will be going somewhere in the mid-west of wales (not exactly canada as i requested but oh well) Apparently we will be within about 20 miles of the Machynlleth loop. Which is where the RAF do alot of high speed low level flying through the hills, a search on Anet will turn up photos of it. I am hoping to do a day of spotting to bring back some photos of the area, but i would like to know if anyone here has some experience with the area and could offer some good spotting locations and days/times, as i would like to bring back some good photos to share. If i can find this place on a busy day it would make up for missing various airshows.

I'll see if I can find out for you - if I can find a chart it'll be easy. Basically the loop has an anti clockwise one-way system, and also long as you're on on of the inside hills where the valleys bear left you should be ok. I've only been there once but I think I can remember where to best place was (ish)...

I have a site with flying times for the months, so hopefully it'll be updated for August. I have an idea of the area now from a map, but if you can find something with good places for spotting i would appreciate it. And actual flight paths.

The thought of you, your Dad and your sister, adding to low flying aircraft terrifying the sheep and cattle on the hills is not going to please the local farmers... ...!

you also have to be able to pronounce Machynlleth correctly...driving there is the easy part... ...LOL...!

Borth and Aberystwyth are just down the coast...
...good for paddling...and collecting Winkles... ...!

Watch out for Welsh border patrols, (and Dan), as you leave civilisation for the dark underworld...  :o...!

It's a fantastic place, Wales.... ...!

...only spoilt by its inhabitants... ....!

Wales is only 20 miles from me and as it's going to be a Fab sunny day tomorrow, I shall be speeding from Hereford to Abergavenny, crossing the border, on my trusty steed to wander amongst the locals and listen to their un-intelligible gibberish, (Welsh). and observe their female companions, (sheep)....
...and trusting that there wont be any Welsh SimV members there at the same time....

P.S. It often rains in Wales, which accounts for the fact that most of their houses are painted the same colour as rising damp....
