Seen any good planes lately?

Postby TacitBlue » Wed Jul 06, 2005 3:36 pm

Heres one for the plane spotters. Seen anything interesting flying around lately? do tell.

A few weeks ago I saw a Cessna 337 and a V35 Bonanza. Last week, a very small ultralight, and a Mooney of some kind (they all look exactly the same). And just yesterday 2 small two-seater low-wing aircraft about 1000ft AGL that I couldn't identify. Oh and an AH-64 the day before that.

Last weekend I saw a powered paraglider fly over really low and slow. And Monday I saw a Cub fly over so low, that when I waved, he waved his wings! It was awesome! :)

Somehow, I almost forgot about the B-52 I saw yesterday. I have no idea what it was doing here, when I saw it it was climbing out and coming from the direction of the ANG base, but I've never seen one there before. In fact that is probably the first BUFF I have seen in the air in 15 years.... and I am 22.

Apart from the usual traffic of Tucanos and Hawks, I saw a couple of F-15s from Lakenheath who did a 180 over the airfield at about 5000ft, and there was an Islander too, and a Spitfire (but we knew that was coming)...

Last wednesday I was off the coast of France and was buzzed by a Super Etendard that was flying at about 80 feet. Havn't heard a jet aircraft so loud for at least six years.

We flew into Philly on an A330 from San Juan, and I saw a Lufthansa 747 taxiing out in Philly.

I also saw a bunch of MD-11s landing in San Juan.

Other than that, it's just the usual, constant stream of 737s over my house (about one every six minutes).

Don't make me mention everything I see.
........now that I think about it, not much in the air capitol this week.  A private R-22 on Saturday flying into 3AU, and Cessna 441 out of KICT on the 4th (no dought on a family trip).  Usually there are plenty of KC-135's, J-1's, T-38's, all Beechcraft planes (factory 3 miles down the road from my house), plenty of Cessnas, and commercial stuff.

Everyone took a week off.

Couple months ago, two F-5's flew over, pretty low.  And around here, ALWAYS see that C-130 (or something like it) in the fire (I think) white with big orange stripes.  Other than that it's the usual Southwest 737s and various other United and American planes coming out of SMF.
