Camera?

Most of you know by now we do not own a camera.  The old girl and I are not ones for taking pictures or even having our picture taken and no we are not on WANTED POSTERS ::) either.

Our mature family has taken enough pictures and continues to do so every time they come home to fill a disk.  That is fine by us if you are into that sort of thing, however when I get up at 5am and look in the mirror to shave every morning I see no change in my appearance and when I look across at the old girl she always looks the same to me and me to her.

One of our children bought me a camera for Fathers Day this year and when I found out what they paid for it I nearly had my first stroke :o.  Way to much, over $1500.00 and more buttons on the dam thing than a GPS unit.  I made them take it back, I would have been scared of dropping it or even worse, leaving it somewhere.

However I am now being convinced by the family to upgrade this computer and the  printer/ scanner which I have never used and upgrade this whole kit with the top of the line which the family want to purchase for the old girl and me.

I know the old girl would probably use it but not likely myself, I am not computer orientated nor have I ever taken a course on computers. :P

Call me old fashion but I rarely use the GPS other than for back-up, I always said when they hung those suck and blow things under the wing that was another mistake.  If it does not have a propeller should it really be flying? ???

Our children tell us (I hate calling them children as they all are pilots and have families of their own now) that I can take a picture with the camera and come in and hook it to the computer and send it to someone on this forum with no problems.  I only have to log on to this forum.  They said I could also send you a postcard of that shot in the mail as well.

This all sounds great and it probably comes with a hefty price tag as well, I know money is not a concern for them however would we really use this system?  Can it be as simple as what they are trying to make us believe, if so I guess we will go for it but I am not interested in taking a computer course for six or so weeks to do this. :P

I posted this as I value the input of others and weigh the opinions of others prior to making a decision.  I find our membership here knowledgable and dedicated to making this a great forum so I am asking for your input about computers and cameras and are they really that easy to use together.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Doug - In my opinion, these contraptions are a hell of a lot easier to use nowadays.  I mean, even HAGAR of all people can do it, and look at the quality of his photos now - and he's an alleged "point and shoot" type of guy!  (Note to hagar - run with this story line, don't ruin the story with the truth)

The other side of the coin is that your kids (no matter how old you/they get, they're still the "kids") WANT to do something for their parents.  Whether you believe it or not, THEY think you deserve it, so be a nice mommy and daddy and LET them do it, and make THEM believe they're being all grown up and doing things FOR YOU...

Price tag makes me think Canon 9 megapixel SLR... which is a nice camera with good optics and interchangeable lens

Usually these things come with an USB cable, and in most cases work just like an external diskdrive with the cable plugged in the PC.

About using the camera: it has a full auto setting for dayly use, but if you are used to manual shutter and diaphragm setting you can do that too.

Hiya Doug.
Yes it is real simple.

1. You can buy a digital camera that will take crystal clear shots for around $200 to 250. No need for a zillion features you will never use. Don't get them, they are confusing if you just want to point and shoot.
Olympus
Fuji
Canon
Sony,...
all make Digital cameras in this price range.

Once you have the camera, here is what happens....

2. You and the ol girl are celebrating your holiday on

Rimshot - trust me on this - no matter how old you are, you'll still be a "kid" to your parents - even if they deny it and "admit" that you're grown up.

As of this moment... i got all my cameras for free...

Current inventory
- Competely Destroyed plastic 35mm with flash. ripped it apart to view its innards
- 'panoramic' plastic wreck of unknown origin, got it from the bank when i opened an account or something... has been sitting in the drawer for ages
- Konica C35EF, 1970's vintage with builtin flash, camera should be OK, flash refuses to work on NiCd batteries
- FED-4B, 1968 or early 1969 if the serialnumber can be trusted. Gonna try this one out in the weekend
