Oh dear. According to the latest BBC Radio news it was caused by a power surge. No definite casualty reports yet. Some passengers might still be trapped at Euston & other stations. The whole London Undergound railway system has been shut down.

An explosion has "ripped a bus apart" just minutes after a number of blasts on London's Underground.Scotland Yard has confirmed there has been an explosion on a bus in Tavistock Place. Union sources claim there have been reports of blasts on three different buses.

Witness Belinda Seabrook said she saw an explosion rip though a bus as it approached Russell Square.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang. I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," she said.

Scotland Yard could not confirm reports of an explosion on a bus in Russell Square. A spokeswoman said police were at the scene and attempting to determine what had happened.

The entire Tube network has been shut down following the blasts at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square.

It is understood several people have been wounded in the underground blasts, with one unconfirmed eyewitness telling Sky News he saw "bodies on the line".

British Transport Police confirmed there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from King's Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around King's Cross covered in soot.

Clare Benson, 33, a city banker from Kensington, was on a tube at Edware Road where the second incident took place.

"I was in the last carriage at the back of the train nearest the tunnel when I heard a huge bang - you could feel it," she said.

"The lights went off for a couple of minutes and people were scared and wondering what to do.

"The drivers got out and were looking into the tunnel, then they announced that we should evacuate. My ears are still ringing and I was shaking."

This is a little more than a coincidence. And i wouldn't be at all surprised if the olympic results had something to do with. Perhaps as an intimidation factor by terrorists.

Are there any problems with the phone lines? I'm trying to get through to my parents, but cannot reach them..They shouldn't be in the area..and they sometimes don't have any reach (cellphone) at where they are..

I hope this isn't an attack! I sincerely hope!

Sou, some mobile networks are down because of overloading with calls. Hopefully they are fine.

last report I heard a total of 17 explosions, various spots.
This is one thing and not due a power surge.
This also proves that to much time and focus on airports and airlines was spend and not looking at the obvious.
I know they haven't officaly called this a terrorist attack but sorry the people of the world aren't as blind as the media.

When was the last bombing of London? been a while.

Might have been the Docklands bombing by the IRA in 1996. http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/february/10/newsid_2539000/2539265.stm

It seems quite likely this is another organised attack by some bunch of cowards, loosely called terrorists for want of a better name. They could be anyone with a grievance & there are plenty of them. No point in speculating who or why until the scale is known & someone admits responsibility for it. Even then, nobody can be sure they're telling the truth or simply taking advantage of it for their own ends.

Like most big cities throughout the free world London was always a prime target. It's happened before & no doubt will happen again - London will come through like it always has. We cannot let these misguided people achieve their aims to destroy our society. Unfortunately they use the very freedom we fought so hard to achieve against us.

thanks Doug.
With all the security being focused on G8 London really was an easy target sadly.
currently 6 blasts and the situation is coming under control. According to the police chief.
