Because people are born with this thing called common sense, it is just that most are to lazy to use it ;)

I hate to say it but, it is an ocean after all.   I mean if you go swimming or what not in the ocean with sharks present there is ALWAYS the chance they may bite, does it stop me?  Absolutely not.

why should they? no point in going to a beach if your gonna stay out of the water, in most peoples cases.
the better question would be. Why cant they use more common sense and keep their eyes open a little more.

I may have already said this in the other shark thread, but the thing that really gets me is the fact that this happens every year around this time, but each year it is treated like some out of the ordinary influx of sharks attacking humans, although it may be relatively rare considering the amount of people entering the water vs. the amount actually bitten by a shark, it shouldn't be unexpected each summer for this to happen.

That's all very well but from what I know of sharks they can attack pretty swiftly & without warning. I've lived by the sea all my life & used to enjoy messing around in it. I know one thing. If sharks were sighted in this area (which they have been during hot summers*), I wouldn't go anywhere near the water, not even for a paddle.

*PS. These are usually basking sharks which I'm told are harmless to humans.

I'm sure the large ones could swallow a human whole. The size of there mouths, i believe a full grown one can be upto 3 metres long.
