Interesting. I hope they never fail to recognise Britsih enginering if it takes off. ;) Somehow I can see it falling to bits under rising costs like the Americans did when they tried do to the same.  ::)

I don't understand that law about no supersonic jets. Thunder is just as loud, not to mention some of these idiots with gigantic stereo systems in their cars. ::)

Maybe they should call Sukhoi... they have some plans lying around that had to do with shockwave reducing design on supersonic aircraft

There was nothing unusual about hearing sonic booms when I was young. Some people used to complain about them (as they always do) & I believe there were a few shattered windows around Farnborough during air show week. The display pilots aimed them directly at the airfield & competed with each other to cause the most impressive boom. I never heard it suggested they could damage people's ears.

PS. Until a few years ago I used to hear the distant double-boom of the Air France Concorde at exactly 8.00 pm every night. You could set your watch by it & it was somehow comforting. Needless to say a few people complained & they had to re-route it.

I would imagine that it cause ear damage if the aircraft were close enough to you, but if they didn't hit mach 1 until, say 20,000 ft then I doubt it would be that big of a deal.

I miss the rattling of the windows and the double boom of the Shuttle as it crosses over for landing at Cape Canaveral ...

hope they do make a replacement. I live quite a way from heathrow but I have a spotting scope set up on my window and I can clearly see the planes lowering there gear for landing
