Man that sucks..
Those DC-3's are getting up there in years. Wouldn't surprise me if it was mechanical failure.. :-/

They should stop flying those vintage DC-3's. It's sad to hear about them falling form the sky :-/ :-/

Can we please not speculate or start rumors yet? They're still putting the flames out for God's sake.

I think the people survived!
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) -- A two-engine plane crashed in a developed area near Fort Lauderdale this afternoon.
Witnesses said the plane came down on takeoff. It ended up on a street with buildings on both sides.
It appears to be an old cargo plane, perhaps a DC-3, a plane that came out in the 1930s and was used widely during World War II as a C-47.
At this moment fire crews are extinguishing the fire, but little is left of the aircraft.
The pilot and passengers are reportedly ok.
Witnesses said they could tell the plane was in trouble moments after takeoff.

My first call was to my daughter - she's lives in the approach to one of the airports. She answered, so it wasn't in her neighborhood. From the tv she turned on, it appears to be a DC-3 (as she described it) and it fell on an apartment complex's parking lot.

Glad to hear that the crew is ok but lacks info on anyone else in the area.
And a 3 at that

Still the important thing is that the crew is ok!

Bummer...I heard that another vintage DC-3 (one that had just been restored) had gotten wrecked in one of the hurricanes of last summer

Kevin posted about this earlier in the Real forum

Great news no-one on the ground hurt and the three crew are in hospital and well considering the hair-raising day they've had. They are sitting up in bed chatting on their mobiles.
So alas one DC-3 less in the world, but no loss of life which is the main thing

Yes so true and another aspect is one more notch in the lipstick case for the "anti-historic aircraft flying movement"

Oh, I love to see them fly. I just hate to see them end up like that. That or they wind up in the scrapyard at Davis-Monthan, which is the case for many Vietnam jets.
