Now, come on. Time to get to the drawing table. Omag  has written a number of times about attitudes here and now I am having a rant.

Is there religion on this board or not?
Is their politics on this board or not?

There is no half way point. Either totally YES or NO not at all.

I am a Christian and I find some posts on here very offensive. I am entitled to my opinions just as much as everyone else is. I could say things and be just as antagonistic to people in reply, but I don't. I object to the fact that some people are let off the hook all the time for being rude and making posts which aren't allowed about what I believe in or what others believe in.

No religion is allowed on the board for a reason and it is to promote harmony among disagreeing parties. This not only applies to the Hindu, Muslim, R. Catholic and protestant it also applies to the atheist and agnostic. The atheist and agnostic has a religion to himself and it is HIS view and it is HIS opinion what he believes and NOT everyone else

Ben, this is a difficult one. Yes i always have to have a say.
During my time here i have always been told by a couple of mods that politics and religion are strongly discouraged because they can cause serious problems.
Now we all know i like to poke fun at our system and politicians, and make little jokes as do others here, and 99% of the time it stays at that. and there really shouldnt be a problem with that.
However i wont argue, you should never be attacked or made fun of over your religious beliefs. I almost always try to stay out of those for the simple reason, its alot more volatile.
We have our disagreements, and differing views and i enjoy the discussions we have, i hope you dont take to much offense to anything i have said personally, i may not always agree with you but i do respect your right to an opinion.

I agree with you Saitek 100%- I am also a Christian and very proud of it. I have been debating for several months whether or not to continue with this forum. I have stayed away from the forums most of this time and when I return to check it out. All I see is the same double standard applied. Anything that "non-believers" want to say to trash any reference to religion is tolerated and any reference whatsoever to anything even remotely related to religion is immediately pounced on and then locked.

I think generally religion and politics is discouraged only because people react strongly to the two. If there's a thread about either with no sign of any volotile disagreements then it will be allowed to run.

As for people dissing your opinions, once I might have cared. But now I just think "what the hell do I care of their opinion of me?" There are some things in life that just arn't really worth worrying about and intill you realise that you'll never be able to enjoy a good discussion about anything.

Wow.........must have missed something. Not unusual for me anyway.

There is one reason and one reason only that politics and religion are taboo subjects here and most other places. They both are passionate issues to most people and will ALWAYS bring out passionate responses which ALWAYS lead to anger.....hurt feelings........outrage..........and yes.........even wars.

If there is a rule in place that these subjects are a NO NO, then this rule should be enforced totally and not selectively enforced.

Having said that, I am also a realist and realize that some will still make posts in these taboo areas, and yes, heaven help them, some will slip by the moderators OR the moderator deems it is ok................only to have one of us get irate over what we percieve to be a rule infraction that is being allowed.

I think that Simviation as a whole, the site, it's moderators and staff has done an excellant job at keeping this place friendly, helpful and informative. BUT, errors will be made, slip ups will occur, NO NOs will slip by the Mods now and then and sometimes bad judgement will occur.

I think everyone's heart and mind is in the right place, so I tend to overlook the occasional "HUMAN" error.

It is impossible to make everyone happy regarding anything, especially online.

Understand it is the nature of the beast. Like I said..........what did I say??...............OH YEAH.....where in the heck did I put my teeth!!

Personally i have had one conflict with the politics issue here. last summer, i posted about a friend from my town that was killed in Iraq and it was quickly deleted probably because it was too debatable and political for obvious reasons. on the other hand..ive noticed that certain members have been allowed to discuss British elections and EU voting, which is also very debatable and most certainly political.  ...my observations, but what is that worth?

I've in the past discouraged Political & Religious posts, for the reasons given.
However, in the Cafe, I think a little leg-pulling is fair game. We do use the cafe to "relax" as would happen in the average Bar, the dreaded pair of topics crop up.

Taking the mick to my eyes is fair enough, my attitude is If you can't see the funny side, come back & speak to me when you can. Lifes too short you know!

To my eyes, the Day we can't post a link to a spoof Flash animation of Messers Blair & Bush in a  rediculous situation, for example, will be an extremely sad one!

Religion & Politics ? - I'd be happy if we lived in a world without either.

I like a good laugh too. Being a fireman and living at the firehall 1/3 of my life............I have learned many things. One of which is...........you had better be able to laugh at yourself or you won't survive.

Then too, military and the fire dept., along with dear old Dad, have taught me that there opinions on everything.........mine of which is just one.

Unlike the rest of you rascals, I am just soooooo thankful I am perfect!      ;D         :-/

At the moment I'm beginning to think that people aren't arguing about religion or politics in discussions, but more the fact that someone dared post a thread with political or religious undertones (although the point of certain threads in the first place may have been nothing to do with religion or politics at all)...

In short, in some threads there's no mention of religion or politics until someone accuses a thread that its religious/political.

In short, let the moderators do the moderating (they volunteered/were volunteered to do the job - and they're damn good at it), and maybe tempers may get a little less frayed in future...

#1 polotics - I don't care! I'm 17, I can't vote... I could care less about polotics...

#2 religion - I am Catholic, I have been my whole life... there's been a few remarks, here and there about religion... not aimed at any certain religion... but, I must say, I have thought about asking either a moderator or Paul (4_series_scania) about changing his signature picture... 'nuff said...
