I got a question for you guys... how many do use paypall? And how safe is it?

Hearing Ellwick's story and the fact that some allready had to change all there bank-accounts and codes, it still worries me. I am looking for the safest way to pay online, without the risk of my hard earned money disappearing on me...

So what are your ideas on this matter?

Cheers,

Omag

I've used PayPal extensively in my ebay transactions...never had a problem.  The one you're referring to is the first such case I've ever heard of.  It happens, but it's rare.  Just remember you're never going to have someone come post about the wonderful experience they've had...just the nightmare experiences.  Millions of people have used it, dozens have had problems. ;)

ive used it before and had no problems, until now... >:(
but i know at least 2 people who have had problems with it, mainly paypal freezing their account and 'keeping' the money....if this happens to you then you are told you have provide i.d for security reasons (which is fair enough) and then your account will be 'unlocked', but both of my friends have provided this and the accounts are still locked.....
try googling 'paypal' and see what comes up..interesting reading... ;)

There are a lot of scams with people sending out very realistic looking e-mails, supposedly from Pay-pal.  They say suspicious activity has been recorded on your account and you need to log in, and do whatever.  The thing to remember is that Pay-pal will always use your name in communications to you.  So no matter what, if your name is not on that e-mail, do not consider following the instructions.  Also, if you forward the message to spoof@paypal.com, their people will tell you if it's authentic or not...

But does it allow some other party to take money away from your account?

No, it gives them access to your account so they can take money out.
