I am so lucky

I just recieved word today by email that I have been selected by the UN (that's the United Nations) to recieve $900,000,000 (yeah 900 million US dollars) to assist in rebuilding Sri Lanka after the tsunami.

All I have to do to get my money is send my bank account information to the UN secretary of Information and the $900 million will be deposited to my account. I'm so excited about this.

Funny thing though, I never knew the United Nations used yahoo.com email accounts.  maybe it's some new cost cutting move. ??? ???

The only thing sadder than someone making a scam off the disaster in Sri Lanka is the fact that a bunch of people will probably actuall fall for this scam. ::)

What a deal!  Some guy in Nigeria is offering me a similar deal - but it's only $100 million.  If you let me in on yours I'll split the money with you.

On the left of the SouthTrust site, they say they're aware of fraudulent emails being sent out, so I'd guess the emails aren't from them but are being faked by someone else...

Actually I get somewhat of a chuckle out of some of the more obvious scams. A bank contacts me asking me to confirm the details of my account. Of course I have never heard of this bank. The only bank where I keep any money is one that is based in my own state and any and all business I do with them is in person at the teller's booth. Online all I can do is look at my balance and see photo copies of checks. Can't make payments. For payments I use a credit card which has fraud protection.

So in essence these scams are wasted on me but it's still amusing to see what they've come up with. I'm keeping a collection of the more obvious and amusing emails. Maybe some day I'll write a book about email scams and use some of these as examples. Trying to think of a title. Maybe: "Scammers I've Met Online" or "Yeah Right". Possibly even "Do They Think I'm Stupid?"  ;D

Sometimes it's fun to play with them. I often reply the "Nigeria Scam" with a link to the F.B.I's page on the Nigeria Scam. Other times I do a quick lookup of their IP# and point out that I know this is faked but I have been able to trace their real one and have notified the authorities in the US and their country.

I know of one guy who actually did find the IP# and trace that to an address. Needless to say he never recieved word from the scammers again once he sent an email listing their home address and telephone number.  ;D ;D

see how it asks you for your PIN. not even banks ask that at the teller. if people dont realize what PERSONAL IDENT. NUMBER means, then whats the point?

and i've heard scammers harvest the scammed people's email address to send more emails. so i've heard...
