The greatest invention of the past 100 years

Postby Souichiro » Tue May 17, 2005 5:37 pm

So 1905 till now ( so no plane's) :P

This was question in one of my english assignments

I chose a kind off radical one the Atomic bomb

I know it is a bit of a strange choice. It has ended one world war and the existence prevented a third world war. I am sure if this thing didn't exist world war three would have happened. I know this thing has downsides but still.......

So what do you think is the greatest invention of the past 100 years and why?

I don't think I could ever pinpoint it to one single item, but I'd say Velcro has to be pretty high up there.  And the LCD display.  I could go on forever.  lol

This is just off the top of my head, so it'll probably change later, but the internet.  There isn't much that's changed the modern world the way the internet has.

Nothing, actually. The 'great inventions' are just refined and extended projects that were actually much older.

The Pen

In the stone age, the pen nothing more than a paint-like substance used to draw pictures of animals and symbols.

As the middle ages approached, the pen then became a feather with a black substance at the tip that was made of different chemical [each chemical had a purpose].

Then came the almighty modern-day pen. You see them and walk passed them as you visit Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, you saw them back in school, and in a workspace.

We take them for granted. It was incredible to see that I myself was using them with no regard as to what impact they had.

It was used [throughout its evolution] in many signifigant events:

The Magna Carta
The Declaration of Indepedence
The treaty that ended WW1 and WW2
And many more

The pen, IMHO, was...still...and always will remain the greatest invention of all.

I'll tell ya one that's not......those damned hot air hand dryer blowers you find in public restrooms.  Those darn things always leave your hands damp no matter how many times you push the button.  They're suppose to be eco-friendly, you know save a tree by not using a paper towel and all that, but I bet they use up more electricity than they're worth!!  The guy that came up with those needs to be beat!!  (It was probably Thomas Edison)
