 Last night UPN ran the last installment of "Enterprise" and with it an end to the voyages of "Star Trek", for the time being.  Rest assured "Star Trek" will reappear again, after a short rest no doubt, in some form or another.

 Much has been said about the failings of "Enterprise", personally I blame the lack of vision by the writers, who replaced science fiction with "space opera".

 But lets not look back at the problems of this latest series but at its high lights.

 This last season offered some good stories (I esspecially like the episode about the green Orion women), answered some questions (like why the Klingons of Kirk's era have no head "ridges") and I always enjoyed the interaction between the Andreans(sp?) with the "pink skins".

 Maybe a short rest is what the "Star Trek" franchise needs.  It'll give the writers a chance to come up with new ideas and leave us, the views, yearning for its return.

aren't UPN and WB11 mainly "black" channels, did not want that to sound racists, it was not meant to be.  The thing is I really don't see either of these two channels lasting, they have some of the most meanless shows, as far as your show ( I have never seen it) but I think the Sci-Fi channel runs something like it, not sure though

the klingon head ridges was explained in DS9, its andoreans. And as far as Enterprise is concerned, too bad but i have hated Star trek since Braga and Berman got full control. But i am giving this final series a chance as although they stupidly started out with 3 two parters its had something to it that was missing in the last few series.
Please dont do to many spoilers as we arnt to far in right now.

The last episode of Enterprise sucked...and I'm actually an Enterprise fan!

Just as it was about to go down the tubes with a whimper they saved it...in the fade to the closing credits.

No spoilers for those who have yet to see that episode...but let me say this:

There are plenty of letters left in the alphabet.

CraigL, in "Trials and Tribblations" (DS9) they touch on why the TOS era Klingons have no head ridges...but in Enterprise they actually explain both the loss and the eventual return. Worf is not very forthcoming about the reasons though.

Funny actually, because an alternate explanation had been part of canon...it was violated by DS9, reinforced by Enterprise...and it's Enterrpise that gets all the bad fan-press for canon violation.

The true failing of Enterprise is in the writing...they dumbed the series down and concentrated more on an "action" format than on the tried and true morallity play that classic Trek encompassed. Even the change of the theme between seasons 1 and 2 seemed aimed at a younger audience...instead of simply aiming at an audience that wants to think.

 I have to agree with SilverFox on both counts, especially the second one.

 And to CraigL, sorry, I didn't mean to give anything away.  It didn't dawn on me that we don't all see things at the sametime!  But watch for the episode with the green Orion women, I thnk you'll be pleasently surprised with the entire story.

Tell me that you didn't like the end of the finale though...

Malcolm Reed gets the ultimate tie-in line though when he gets to say "All Good Things" in reference to events onboard Enterprise during "These are the Voyages".

I agree that the failing is in the writing.  I have been a life long Trek fan.  If it weren't for Trek, I would not have met my wife.  But plain and simple, the franchise is tired.  Rick Berman himself once said in an interview that he believed in wringing every last bit out of a show (too many trips to the well, he called it) and that is what they have done.

If they want to go in a new direction, they should look at Sci-Fi's Battlestar Galactica.  The shows are well written, well acted, and the production values are incredible.  They have taken what was an almost forgotten, cheesy 70's throwaway show and made it into something special.  That show is raising the bar for what is to come and if Trek is to revive itself yet again, it can't be with the same old time travel, someone takes over the Enterprise, or the great big galaxy killing monster that has become the trademark of Trek.

The name Enterprise will be on our screens again, perhaps it will be a long break like TOS to TNG or maybe when they get new writers.
