I personally think it was a mistake, of course the senior pilot with much experiance should have known that they were heading into "no mans land" it really doesn't matter.
This Homeland Security is to the point of being rediculous.
Of course the media had the whole story blown out of proportion from the start, stating claims such as the pilot was a instructor, which he wasn't, that they didn't respond to radio contact, which they did, etc.
You read the whole true story and I think you'll find that the firing of flares and the insane treatment the men faced upon landing was totally uncalled for! Thier mistake made them imediate terrorist and they were treated as such when thrown to the ground and handcuffed.

The media never told you that the Homeland Security Citation Jet was in contact with the pilot from time they were reaching protected airspace, this many minutes before they had flares fired upon them They were never given the chance to turn around before being taken under attack by fellow Countrymen, all this comes out after the fact and now once again due to media a few more families are scarred for life and will be looked upon as irresponsible or idiots.

Personally I'm ashamed to know that our country has come to this, and once again I'll bring up what I stated long ago here, situations like this which cause mass hysteria within the public is all the more proof that the terrorist have accomplished thier goal, and that is to terrorize the masses and that is what they have done

I personally don't feel safer knowing that "Homeland Security" is protecting me, actually I feel more vunerable knowing they aren't watching for the "real" threats, but yet make a simple case of mis-direction to prove that they are doing thier job.

In a post 9-11 world, there is no room for error.  The guy screwed up, we all know that.  I'd much rather find out that DHS overreacted than UNDER reacted.

If a bunch of geeks that fly flight sim know there's a no-fly zone there, then certainly the two pilots should have known.

There is a HUGE difference between flying in a Flightsim and actually navigating in real life...have a care before making such a judgemental statement.

I hope you don't find yourself making such a mistake and receiving such rough treatment.  I recommend you take a look at the McCarthy era and compare it to what's going on today.

I seem to be reading about a large number of false ID's on terrorists.  The ones wrongly accused get a "Oh, sorry", but that doesn't make up for how they're treated.

Exactly my point.  And the guys here KNOW that you can't go near the White House.  (If you're flying around DC and don't know where the White House is, look for the Washington Monument.  If you're not sure which one that is, it's the 555 foot tall needle looking thing that can be seen for miles.  If this 157 year old needle starts to look big, go the other way.)

People have become so anesthitized to the concept of "consequences".  We're expected to feel sorry for everyone except those who should really have our sympathy.

These two monkeys committed a crime.  It doesn't matter why they committed a crime.  They broke the law, and they're going to have to face the music for doing it.  At the time they were being yanked out of the plane, no one knew what they were up to.  To blow smoke up their ass and do things nicely would be wholly irresponsible.

The FAA will most likely not yank their tickets.  They'll get a fine at most.  They should consider themselves lucky.  I for one don't feel at all bad that we hurt their feelings or scared them when they flew into restricted airspace.

Yup.  There was no overreacting here.  There is the need for the strictest security around the capital, and yes, a Cessna can be dangerous (my above post).  They really shouldnt've even let him get that close, ideally.

btw, he was being extremely irresponsible.  He didn't check weather or NOTAMs, nor did he go over his route.  Note to everyone: if you get lost around D.C. in an airplane, LAND IT until you can figure out where the hell you are!
