hi

I took these pics on monday, at about 20:30, any idea what it is? There was a clear sky no clouds and the sun was just going down.

Was it moving? fast? slow? stationary? was it a cloud? I have no idea, but a bit more info would be cool.

Cheers,

TSC.

How long would you say it took for it to go from one horizon to the other? Right now I would say its a con-trail from an airliner. Also, where do you live? is there any military acitivity nearby?

I don't see a contrail, I see a 'fireball'.  Not in the flaming wreckage sense, but in the actual astronomical object sense...

I assumed that the yellow glow was due to the fact the the sun was setting at the moment as stated in Littleports description. Wat exactly is a fireball anyway? does it have something to do with meteors?

OK, Herefordshire. could it have been Fozzer? Or possibly his stove? I remember him saying that he had a mishap with a gas stove once...  ;D

A fireball is when space junk enters the atmospere and slowly burns up.

I've seen one before, except it was much bigger, and every one started running around and screaming, I decked this one guy that got to close to me.... he didin't even try to hit me back or look at me he just ran back into wall mart.

sorry snake but if you tried that to me and most likely any other member here, you'd find yourself on the floor with many less teeth. There is absolutly no need to go hitting people for no reason, especially when your 14. ;)

As for the pictures, that look like a 747 or A340 to me with a large contrail being reflected by the evening sun.

You did well to get those shots. My immediate thought is that it's a vapour trail caught in the evening sunlight. I often see similar sights over here. They can look very dramatic.

PS. Of course, it could be our Fozzer out for a ride. ;)

a) I supose you were just trying to calm that guy down.

b) Idiots. Behaving like medieval farmers seeing something unknown.
