At 7:00am I had a couple of young locals drop by(6 in all), they had just finished their chores, milking the cows and such.
The locals will usually gather here Saturday mornings for free coffee and the old girls tarts and such.
Well we got into a discussion about unwanted trespassers and such and then something just came out of the conversation...right out of the blue.
Another teenager tried to commit suicide this week by jumping off a bridge. No reasons have been given out yet and her name has not been released.
More disturbing though is there is an attempt and usually a successful suicide in our immediate area at least three times a year!
Well I remember last year about this time, it was just before school recessed for the year two young lads shooting themselves. I think it was about two or three weeks apart. It was over girlfriends.
There we sat the old girl and I more than a half century older than the oldest here, we sat in the hangar around the wood stove watching the rain fall drinking hot coffee. The C172 in the background, still muddy from the last landing and the tractors all watching us.
The old girl finally broke the silence again when she said "didn't we do this last year when so and so shot himself? I am sure it was raining that morning to."
Do any of you know how loud a wicker rocking chair sounds when it is dead quiet? I am sure someone could here ours two concessions away this morning.
I looked at each lad trying to figure out what he was thinking when I finally asked the question..."anyone here thinking about doing something stupid like suicide?" I think all six no's came at once...the guys just needed a place to talk and we usually have a bull session here on Saturday mornings unless farm work takes priority.
We talked about a lot of things this morning from 07:00 to almost 09:30 including suicide.
As always the old girl took her leave telling them as she always does to watch their driving and she will see them in church tomorrow. As if that is going to happen, well she might see two of them as they are regular goers.
Well the lads have all left smiling just the way they came.
It is a damp drizzly day here but it sure looks good to us

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
