Local news becoming pointless?

I was watching the local news last night and was pretty POed afterwards.

1/2 hour:

7 minutes on daylight savings time (yay sounds like we are going to adopt it soon :-/ )

4 minutes of weather. (even better...scattered rain till next week)

a couple minutes on misc junk.

Historical flight of the A380 that i really wanted to see....Couldnt have lasted more then 15 seconds :o >:( >:( :(

And the part that pissed me off the most.  The MICHEL JACKSON trial got nearly 6 minutes.

The largest passenger jet in the world takes its first flight and if you blinked you might miss the artical.  But some stupid trial that im sure most people (especialy me) are truly tired of hearing about, gets nearly 6 minutes of coverage almost every night :-/   >:(  Aparently he must be more important then the rest of the world happenings :-/

Just saw an add on TV for a new show about how the rich and famous live...personaly WHO GIVES A FLYIN @#$%  Just because they have money they are better then everyone else?...You dont see the average joe getting his own show :-/

grrrrrr needed to vent a little:P

Do you feel your local news is being over ran with this kind of junk  ???

I know, it gets worse around big cities, like CHicago. all I hear on NBC5 is shootings, bomings, and whatnot in the area. if there is any good news, it's at the end of the broadcast. and what ticks me off the most is that since the news stations are based in chicago, the suburbs get the smallest blip unless it's something drastically important.

the last big production newscast about chicago was the Glenbrook North Powderpuff football scare.

weather gets a blip, but NBC now offers NBC+ weather.

and the speical newscasts, like of important medical discoveries, or what cars have what crash ratings are so overhyped, it's not even funny. and you expect to the report to be like 5 min long. the report may last a minute or 2.

and I hear of no event's calandar unless it's like the LaSalle marathon or the Taste of Chicago...

so much good goes on in the city and suburbs that goes unnoticed because it's not important enough. only the reports of houses on fire, shootings, and scandals get the treatment.

DONT EVEN ger me started about celebrity scandals. lastest one i heard was the one about Pink coloring her dog's hair, well, pink. i really don't care what color the dog is. just like I could care less how many years MJ gets locked up for. I'm not going to meet or help the guy, so what do I care. and the whole Bretney Spears baby thing, again, WHO CARES!?! it's another baby, which just means this one's going to be spoiled byoned belief and won't know the true meaning life. I bet you thats how (s)he will turn out.

news just doesn't matter anymore. poeple are born, people die, people get lucky, thats life.

I seriously think they need a calandar of event of the SUBURBS. this could go for any suburb of a city. we are so overloked because we get the bad rap of "oh the suburbs are boring, ful of rich snotty people who got nothing better to do.

I don't even care about national news, it's local news on a grand scale. more people dying, more people born, more people gettin lucky. again, thats life.

ok, enough of that. back to being bored. mabye i'll watch the news. ;D

The local news here used to be really bad. They were the last ones to report on anything, and they always got scooped by the Kansas City stations. But lately they have been doing great, nicely balanced between good news and bad. They just got a new weather radar system, so weather gets as much time as it needs and more. Also, they just did a special about safety during tornadoes and strong T-storms, which we get a lot of here. The speacial was great, it was like something you would see on discovery channel, only it was hosted by the local people.

Well, Philly news has been kind of interesting.  The corruption in the mayor's office + skyrocketing crime rates (we now have on of the highest murder rates in the country ::)) can lead to some interesting bashing.... I stick to the major news networks (CNN, MSNBC, etc.) myself, for the important stuff.

I grew weary of network news, so I made the switch to Fox News Channel.  Awesome stuff...

little info for you. Most of the general public couldn't give a crap about the A380. most of them have no interest in aircraft, that is why it gets 15 seconds ;) :)

Honestly, even being an aviation buff, I didn't really find much interesting in the A380.  lol

Another gripe about the news is overdramitization. Little town gets some vandals turning over some gravemarkers and suddenly "the whole community has been victimized". Sure it was a lousy thing to do. Sure if you catch who did it they should pay to set everything right but it hardly needs a whole town going into therapy.

Weather: Not long ago we had a "Severe Storm". Darn thing hit where I'm at dead center. News was warning everyone to "Take shelter immediately" this was a "Deadly storm". When it hit the house it was one gust of wind about 30 kts and five minutes of downpouring rain. Sun came out and it was sunny and warm the rest of the day.

Winter weather: Ever notice how every dusting of snow starts life as the storm of the century? It begins with 12-14" soon that's 8-12" then it's 6-8" and 3-6", 2-3", 1-2" and when it's all said and done you are lucky to see enough to have to dust off the car in the morning. Particularly interesting here is the fact that the weather report is always "Brought to you by Marsh or Kroger etc.". Go to the store when a storm like this is brewing and look at the shelves. They're bare. Hmm, I see a motivation there don't you?  ;D

In the era of ratings you just can't compete with plain jane news anymore. You need something shocking or of wide general interest. Whoever grabs the viewer's eyes first will keep them tuned in so play it for everything it's worth. It's not news anymore it's just hype aimed at selling advertising.

LOL...probly couldnt have said it better there Matt.  Of course, noticed your profile says your from Indiana as well (what part ??? ) weather is pointless in predicting here.  You only know when its here.  Last time they said we would get a dusting of snow it was more like 1/2 a foot :P  Indiana has its own weather patterns and why the weather men and women try to predict it is beyond me.  YOU CANT, so why try ::)

I'm sure there are plenty of people who didnt even know the A380 existed and dont care.  But did feel it should deserve a little more then a few seconds.  Something new for once.  Every night it never fails there is at least 4-5 minutes covering the MJ trial.  Probly just as many if not more could care less about it.  Yet its there every time  :-/

I watched CNN that morning for awhile but only caught the end of the coverage.  I have a feeling the live version was at 2 or 3 AM here.  If only they could have waited just a few more hours to play with the new toy ::) :P

Barely watch the news anymore.  Want the weather i just look outside.  But unfortunatly out of 80+ chanels the 6 PM news is about the only thing even partly worth watching... Thats not saying much for normal tv :-X

Im lucky ive developed a way of missing none of the aircraft news.  Here in NZ we only have two local news station. Tv3 and Tv 1.  Ive noticed that tv3 broadcast pictures from most most if not all the airshows in nz where as tv1 doesnt.

but thats just for aircraft.  Other than that there pritty good at portioning out their show ;)

Haven't seen or heard news of any type in months, I used to listen to NPR but since I got satellite radio I can even avoid that now.

News flash. Local news programs are for reporting Local news!!!!! Thats why events such as the A380's first flight hardly get a look in. In fact I'm suprised they mentioned it at all. When I wanted to see the report I watched Channel 4 News because they report on everything national and international. I didn't watch Westcounty News because the A380 has bugger all do to with there sphere of influence. :P :P :P
