What Will gets does on his day off...

Postby ozzy72 » Thu Apr 21, 2005 4:39 am

Well I've finally found out what our own Smoke2much gets up to on his days off....

Kangaroos tend to prefer the arid plains and scrubland of central Australia to the leafier environment of Kent.
But a stunned driver has told police how she encountered a large kangaroo hopping along the side of the road between the villages of Ide Hill and Sundridge early yesterday. The driver said the animal veered off up a woodland track as her car approached and hopped out of sight.
The motorist reported the sighting to police, but they did not search for the kangaroo because "it had left the highway". Kent police say they will notify the RSPCA if there are further sightings.
"To the best of my knowledge there are no kangaroo-related crimes, so the public would not thank us for sending an officer to look for it," a police spokeswoman said. "There are better uses for our resources."
There have been frequent sightings of wallabies in Kent which escaped from zoos, but this is the first kangaroo to be reported on the loose.

Good old Will. Never a dull moment. ;D
Maybe there's something to this global warming stuff after all. :o

Here's your question for the day: From a quick glance how would an ordinary motorist tell the difference between a small kangaroo & a large wallaby? ;)

PS. Don't ask me. I don't know the difference anyway. ::)

A kangaroo running (hopping?) around loose in the suburbs isn't as much a cause for alarm as, say, a tiger, but the police response seems pretty lackadasical to me. Kangaroos can be quite dangerous when they feel threatened, and no doubt this one is a little freaked-out right now. If it doesn't do any harm it'll probably come to some harm... from the comment quoted, it seems like the cops are waiting until something bad happens before they do anything about this. Are they really that busy? ???

Right Rotty...they pack a mean kick........as a lad, 60 plus years ago the local annual fairs ( we called em FEEASTS in Yorkshire) always had boxing booths for the local lads, who were mostly coal miners, to show off.....I well remember they could take on a Kangaroo or a fighter and were ALWAYS glad to get out of the ring after a few well aimed kicks in the b***s from the Roo......commoner. ;D ;D

..Would be against "animal rights" now to do that...Not PC as they say ;)

That's the usual thing in the UK. Can't do anything until after the event. The police are very understaffed anyway (or say they are) & the public is always complaining about the time they waste instead of catching criminals. You could say their image is not the best its ever been. ::)

It's quite likely this was a wallaby which are quite common in some parts of the country. The police comment in Ozzy's quote says that they are frequently sighted in that area of Kent. It's quite possible this was the first time that woman had encountered one & she assumed it was a kangaroo.

PS. It's also possible it was Will. :D

In Buckinghamshire we see lots of road kill, I mainly see it as live beastie in front of me, road kill in my rear view mirror ;D
Having lived in Australia as a kid I can vouch for the fact that a roo is a dangerous bugger, and they can kill you. When I was first in Oz many years ago a guy was killed playing golf, the roo got hit on the head by a golf ball and hopped over and kicked the bloke in the chest compressing his heart and causing the ribs to puncture the lungs! Never mess with large marsupials, they ain't scaled up rabbits :o

We once went midgetgolfing with work. me and two friends were the first on the course and a friend of mine started. He smashed the ball against a rock it bounced back straight int the private area ;D He was on the floor in pain, we were on the floor laughing ;D

And ow yeah why?

It just brings to mind the phrase from tennis.

"NEW BALLS PLEASE!!"

;D ;D ;D ;D
