I've seen it all now. Bet they would completely ignore me if I complained. The world's rapidly going mad. I'm convinced it's not me. ::)

A wind turbine near a top-security prison is being switched off in the early mornings because the flickering shadows it creates annoy inmates.

I can't say that I would want a wind farm anywhere near me but if there was I'm sure nobody in authority would take much notice of similar complaints. We would just have to put up with it. I assume they thought carefully before siting this wind generator where it is but when convicted criminals complain about it they switch the darned thing off. Now pardon me but I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that this is just a tad ridiculous. ::)

Man if you think that is bad check this out:

In holland prisoners are getting techno pillars(Tv,Internet and such) To fight Boredom!!!!!

I saw a program once on tv where a woman heavily protested against an surprise cell search she said (and I quote) "They are treating me like a criminal" Seriously if you have to go to jail make sure you do it in Holland!

Well, you see the turbine tends to interfere with their golf game. Sure they could go back to the clubhouse and have some tea and biscuits, but this happens right after their four course English breakfast, and right before brunch, and they dont want to spoil their appetite. And yes, they could just go play Polo instead, but thats what they do in the afternoon. You cant possibly expect convicted felons to curtale their activities just so 4000 people can have electricity now can you?

Read about Flicker Vertigo about halfway down the page...and the various medical problems it can cause.

Strange that it has to be mentioned on an aviation related site. :)

I'm pretty sure that the large propeller type turbine blades might cause this over a large area.

You don't have to tell me about flicker. Just watching some of these trendy TV editing techniques that are so popular now is enough to give me a migraine. Strobes are even more efficient.

Note that is a high security prison. If it was up to me I would send bastards like Huntley there & subject them to plenty of flickering. He can complain all he likes for all I care.

wow! I had no idea that such a thing existed. I wonder if that makes you more suseptible to motion sickness in video games? that happens to me in some first person perspective games - thankfully, not in FS.

Heres an Idea, why not use transparent plastic or fiberglass to make the turbine blades?

I don't know which series it was but in japan a few years ago there was an anime with so much flickering ,that many children got some epileptic reactions or something like that.

As usual I agree with Doug.  Who gives a flying f*ck whether the animals in prison get a headache?  They commited the crimes, let the b*stards suffer.

I'm all heart me.

Simple solution to this problem. Make sure all inmates' TVs and other luxury appliances draw their juice directly from the wind farm, then see how much complaing they do. I'm not a member of the "let 'em rot, it should be as bad as possible in prison" set, but on the other hand, this is just too much. Don't want to" upset "them?!!
