That's it then. The end of an era.

The board of MG Rover has called in the administrators, UK Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt has said.

It follows the collapse of the company's planned tie-up with China's largest car marker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC).

Earlier on Thursday, MG Rover warned that the deal would fall through if the government was not forthcoming with a vital

NA na na na, na na na na, oh hell yeah, good bye. Sing it with me folks.
Maybe that eyesore of a plant down the road will be torn down. And the crap they now produced finally taken off the roads.
Dont buy into the "tragedy" for longbridge crap either. If you have ever driven through there after dark you know never to stop. all the old abandoned worker houses now are drug flats.

I feel sorry for all those who might loose their jobs over this. Dont get me wrong. But as far as the company are concerned i couldn't care less, they have done nothing but produce over priced rubbish for the past 5 years. Longbridge is a dump, next time i am there i will take some pictures so you can see. They get their act together clean up the huge drugs problem around the plant. Improve management, put in a bunch of guys who want to succeed and refurbish the plant i would be happy to support them.

I think this goes back further than that Craig. I have no idea what it was like around Longbridge back in the 60s & 70s & dread to think what it's like now. ::) I'm quite certain they had nothing like the drugs problem you mentioned in those days. The company underwent so many name changes trying to improve its image that I had problems keeping up.

Money over costs. British cars are usually overpriced as it is.  But the majority of british cars now are presitge cars. Aston Martin for example. A company like Rover/ MG rover. Have always had the reputation for being an older persons car. The problem is, they charge more for their cars than the import competitors. And as Doug said those japanese/ european cars are much better aswell. Its sad really because the Rover 75 is a pretty good car, my uncle owns one, its quiet upto 60mph, fast and does good MPG. If you havent noticed they style that series on jaguars and the Rover is also apparently alot better than the Jag it copies. If they could do that with all their cars and charge a reasonable price for them they would be rolling in it. An old company still stuck in its old habits.

Well Woody, without wishing to get political in any way, shape or form I suggest the same can be said for the other lot. ::) :P

Never trusted a politician yet & I'm not about to change my ways now.

PS. With all due respect to Craig's uncle of course. ;)
