USAF C-130 from RAF Mildenhall in the UK crashed in a mountainous region of Albania last night. All nine on board were killed. Apparently was conducting exercises with the Albanian armed forces... :(

Nope. Not sabotage but thats about it - but that doesn't rule out being shot down...

Then again, with the C-130's possible wing problems on some of the aging aircraft, the full report may be interesting and have very serious repercussions for C-130 operators...

thats true, i would agree that it being shot down is still a possibility. there are still some rouge areas in Albania. remember, this counrty was in COMPLETE anarchy before the 1998 fiasco... i should post some of my pics

I highly doubt that it was shot down, if that thing was flying any where near even a BB gun pointed at the sky, there would be a squadron of F-16s escorting it. Plus, the C-130 has onboard ECM (I think) (Radar Jammer, flares, and foil paper) and even if it was shot down, it would've more than likely gotten a word out.

I think we were talking about the possibility of the RAF C-130 being shot down in Iraq, not the USAF one last week.

The fact that the USAF aircraft flew into a mountain immediately rings CFIT (controlled flight into terrain) alarm bells, but we'll have to wait and see...

As always, I think conjecture is pointless & it's better to say nothing until after the findings of the official enquiry are published.

I somehow get the idea that they're not admitting all they know about the RAF incident. Hope I'm wrong but if there's a fault with the aircraft, all examples likely to be affected should be withdrawn from service immediately & remain grounded until the fault is identified & rectified. Unfortunately, knowing how things work in the aircraft business, especially in these days of law suits & whatever, I think the chance of the manufacturer admitting responsibility is unlikely.
