Sidewalks

We have a nice, well maintained sidewalk system in our town, why is it that there are always a certain group of retards that insist on walking in the road, of course they are punks (or gangsta's) who think they can do whatever they want, I feel as though I should have the right to run them over if they are not crossing the street but just strolling down the road as if it were the sidewalk which is only 10 feet to the side.
I really feel sorry for any of these losers if they ever decide to be a smart-ass and say something like "Go ahead, hit me." because guess what, I would. "OOPs!, He stepped right out in front of me, nothing I could do officer."

I completely agree, Paz!  Here they've taken their stupidity to a new level by periodically - and literally - jumping out in front of the car, then trying to jump back as fast as they can.

It's happened to me, and also to a friend of mine's dad...the guy in front of him slammed on his brakes and my friend's dad plowed into the back of him...morons.

Also, the ones that meander across the road forcing you either to slow down or hit them.  it's a stupid game really, because if I do hit them then I only get a slighty dented bumper, but they end up in hospital.

Social retards.

(afterwards, I wouldn't fix the bumper, i'd just paint they're name on it where the dent is).

To solve this growing problem, I've created a stencil for you all to use if you'd like.

Just like with fighters and bombers, just place the stencil on your left front quarterpanel, just in front of the door, and spray your favorite color.

In no time, you'll have all the advance warning needed to remedy the situation.

LOL!

It's not so much a problem in our new neighborhood, but in the old neighborhood we had a group of disrespectful kids that would play in the street, and just stand around talking in the middle of the street....

So we would end up waiting a few minutes trying to go around them... :-/

But don't do anything to offend them, because then they would pull a gun and shoot ya.... ::)

I've been complaining about these idiots for a long time. Pedestrians now think they own the whole road that I & my fellow motorists pay for the right to use. This is now actively encouraged by the government who have seen fit to make the motorist Public Enemy Number One. We used to have a law against jaywalking but I haven't seen it enforced for many years. Strangely enough I don't remember it being repealed. ::)

I'm surprised to hear you have this problem in the US. Although my last visit was some time ago, one thing that impressed me was the behaviour of pedestrians, that was if you saw a pedestrian. I found that in places like Florida the only people you would see waking even a short distance were Brits on holiday. Quite naturally they behaved as they do at home & some were lucky not to be killed crossing the road. I was also impressed with Manhattan where both drivers & pedestrians alike obeyed the traffic signals. When the sign says Walk it's quite safe to walk - or it was on two separate visits. If this wasn't so I suspect there would be numerous people mown down in Manhattan every day.

You're lucky you only have punks and "gangstas".  Around where I live it's everybody walking on the street.  They're walking in the right direction, the wrong direction, they walk two and three people wide and won't move if they see someone driving at them.  It's like driving in a people slalom, I feel like I should just start driving on the sidewalk because no one else is there. ;D ;)

It is a bizarre (and annoying!) trend. I see it all the time- all sorts of people, sometimes even peeople pushing strollers.
Hagar: You'd have to spend some more time in NYC to see the real suituation... granted, it's not like Bangkok or something, but there's plenty of lawlessness on the part of driver and pedestrian alike. When I'm driving in NYC the peds don't bother me as much as those damn cabbies!!! Idiots!!! And tourists should beware of the bicycle messengers, too- most are careful but I once almost had my toes run over by some twit who flew through a red light and cussed  me out as he passed!!! >:(
Some trivia: The world's first recorded fatality involving an automobile took place in Manhattan in the early 1900s... a man stepped off a streetcar right into the path of a car. If things were at all like they are in NYC today, the driver probably took off...

I'm thinking of getting some of those extra wide wing mirrors that people towing caravans use - just so that i can smack these jaywalking morons with them when they think they are safely (but only just) out of my way.
It also really annoys me when people walking on roads shout at ME to slow down - erm, it's a road!!!

Cheers,

TSC.

TSC you're right, that's always a funny sight.  But what gets me even more is when they just ASSUME you're going to stop for them, or worse - they assume that you're in no hurry, so they can just take all afternoon to get across the street.  Ugh...fricken people!  lol

We don't have any sidewalks around here......

I was in Denver last year and nearly got run over by a bus. I didn't realise that they ran busses through this plaza-like place, literally ON THE SIDEWALK, and the rather large mirror of one clipped my shirtsleeve. Needless to say I stayed well away from that area of the sidewalk after that!

some of you might want to avoid Birmingham city centre when driving a car:) It is the true test of brakes as people will just walk out in front of you without warning and without looking.

Here in the UK .... predestrians have right of way at all times .... us drivers don't tell them that it just encorages them. ;D ;D

Of course as a predestrian I'm a nightmare, I know the rules and use and abuse them as I wish  ;D ;D

For those who don't know in Holland any collision between a predestrian or bicycle and a car, no matter whos fault, the car driver is always charged. They have also pioneered nude roads where there are no lines .... or street furniture to seperate predestrians and vehicles. It actually reduces accidents by forcing all involved to be aware of the others... and frequent eye contact means that things become safer.

As I am From Holland and also studying for my drivers liscense. The first thing the theory book says is that: It is illegal to cause a deadly accident.(do I hear a challenge) There are also Nude roads where there are lines but no(well you can figure that out yourself). Another measure taken by our govt. Is on some stretches mopeds have to drive on the road while this seems strange beacause of the speed difference(Most mopeds here drive faster than the cars) It lead to a significant drop in dealy accidents. On a funny note Once during my driving lessons some punks stopped walking on a zebra crossing when they saw me coming. Of course I stepped down on the accelerator a bit and they went away ;D My instructor gave me a compliment( Which is unfortunately rare)

;D
