Mi-2 down

Postby ozzy72 » Fri Apr 01, 2005 12:31 pm

Well my favourite Mi-2 (the blue and white one I've posted pics of in the photos forum), our local medivac helicopter crashed 2 streets from us yesterday, almost right in front of Mrs. O and Mini-mod (they came round the corner about 2 mins after it happened).
They are fine, the 2 doctors on-board are okay, but the pilot is seriously injured but expected to make a full recovery.
Cause of the crash engine failure, most likely reason the mayor nicked all the money for maintenance ::) Don't you just love it :(
So my favourite little Mi-2 is gone, and we have no helicopter service for seriously ill people now, better drive a little more carefully....

Man, that sucks, but at least there were no fatalities...

That's bad news Mark. I'm just glad your family is OK. Hope the pilot makes it too. I might moan about our local police helo at times but these chaps do a wonderful job.

Yeah that is a real relief. People don't usually survive helo crashes. They tend to drop like stones.  :(

No patient aboard I assume- good thing. I guess those who decided to replace the old girl will feel more justified now... and maybe they're not wrong. Of course, it'd have been better to retire it and give it a new home with an owner who might fly it less often and baby it a little... sad.

They had actually just dropped off a patient when this happened, we are getting another Mi-2 from the retired list in Budapest....

I noticed in your photos it has external panniers. I assume they're used for carrying stretchers like the old MASH helos. Seems a tad old-fashioned now. Can't they find anything better? I suppose it all comes down to cost.

The panniers carry emergency equipment like defribulators and stretchers so there is room inside, once someone is on a stretcher and in the heli there isn't much room ;D
As for affording better the mayor has nicked the money and is still free. P
