Monday Evening

Postby Smoke2much » Thu Mar 31, 2005 3:02 pm

Yesterday (30/3/05) a film crew were filming in my department for a documentary due to go out monday evening.  I'm not in it because I wasn't at work :-[.  But if those of you in the UK want to see where ol' Smoke works look out for a doco' about the state of the NHS and A&E and you'll see some of my colleagues and where I seem to spend most of my waking life.

If I knew 'em I'd give you them.  It was a meridian crew so I think we're on ITV.  It might be national but it could be one of those local things after the news.  It was sprung on us at the last minute so that they couldn't arrange for particular staff to be in it etc. and the details are pretty vague.  I'll post more details when I can.

Very cool, Will.

It was sprung on us at the last minute...

Wow, this brings back memories.  How's THIS for last minute?

At boot camp, we all jumped out of our racks first thing in the morning (0500) in our underwear to find a film crew standing up on the quarterdeck.  Turns out the South Carolina Department of Corrections was looking to Parris Island for ideas of how to run their prison system, and that somehow involved filming us in our skivvies.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

Cool, do you work in A&E Will? Darent Valley? I think it might be for "Tonight, wih Trev McD", which is on at 2000 on Monday. Seems the prime candidate from ITV's listings...

It was aimed specifically at Scot.  He married a fake Sarah and must therefore pay for his error.

It is.  Not only do I miss out on seeing the helicopter but if it does come in we have to have an ambulance on hand to collect the patient and bring it to A&E.  The Ultimate in NHS PFI cock ups.

It's a good hospital though with one of the best and busiest A&E's in the country.

All of those that you mentioned are gone now.  Gravesend was demolished last year.  During late October the boiler room was being pulled apart and the two huge boilers were visible as you walk past.  One Thursday morning a little old lady walked on to the site with her tartan shopping trolley and demanded to see the man in charge.  She would not be fobbed off and finally the boss arrived and asked her what she wanted.  She said, "You are aware that those boilers were clad in Blue Asbestos in 1964?"
"No they aren't" replied the manager.
"I assure you they are," replied the old lady "I was secretary to the manager of works in this hospital between 1954 and 1977 and I signed the requesition."
The manager went pale and a hasty search was started.  2 Hours later the place was crawling with environmental health and the asbestos was removed properly.  The crew had no idea it was there.  I laughed my head off 8)
