I already know quite a few peoples home airfields from the info below their avatars, but i'm just curious where everyones nearest/home airfield is, maybe include a bit of its history or pictures.

My home airfield (i live in the town which backs onto it), is RAF Brize Norton, largest RAF base in the world, home to 101 & 10 squadron, who are air-to-air refuelling, transport, and cargo squadrons. The most common aircraft are Tristars and VC-10's, but the small fleet of C-17's is growing. I regularly go up in Piper's at the flying cup there (10 or so little light aircraft), as I know several pilots willing to take me for a spin when they go up.

I might post some pics I took when Concorde came into land here at one time.

anyway feel free to post some info about your nearest airfield, maybe we could do a world tour of everyones home airfields  8)

10/101 Sqn (VC-10) as well as 99 Sqn (C-17) and 216 Sqn (Tristar).

Flew over Brize today...

My local airport is fairly famous as the light blue prototype of one of the most famous aircraft in the world first flew from it...

yeah i know, i was trying to type it in a few secs as i had to get off the pc.

aren't 101 and 216 meant to merging soon soon as the VC-10's arent gonna be around for much longer?

10/101 and 216 will probably continue at least until we get the new tankers. With the "interesting" possible crewing arrangements we may find that the new aircraft are nominally split between 2 Sqns, which is a difficult one to call...

A possible combination could be having 10 and 101 reforming as 2 seperate sqns with the A330, and 216 Sqn becoming another C-17 Sqn, when we have the next five aircraft (in a similar fashion to 8 and 23 operating the pool of E3Ds at Waddo)

kool  ;D so will the amount of aircraft be getting bigger, or will it just be a straight aircraft for aircraft swap?

and i like the idea of the RAF getting A330's  8) ill have to try and get on board one of those if they do come  :)

anywayz you flew over Brize Today, what planes dya fly then? RAF?

Well my city doesn't have an airport (well we have a ultralight field, but not a true airport). So I do my flying mainly from McKinney Municipal (KTKI) or Rockwall Municipal (F46).

McKinney is a large airport by anyone's standards, Rockwall is smaller, but both offer 100LL and Jet A and offer plenty of hangers, tiedowns, and full maintenance.

I think most people should know by now about my local airport as I'm always going on about it & posting numerous photos. Shoreham is the oldest commercial airport in the UK. http://www.shorehamairport.co.uk/default.asp

Note it's now called Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport although it was never in Shoreham & is several miles from Brighton.

Wings, KLOM (N67 in FS) for me.  I'm incredibly lucky to be taking lessons there, their flight school is renowned as one of the best on the east coast.

KBAK used to be a military base long ago. As a teenager I helped tear down the barracks buildings. I remember one time when we found a hand grenade in a building. Luckily it was just a practice dummy but we didn't take any chances. Had the Bomb Squad and everyone out there.  ;D

If you are on approach to Rwy 23 about 9 miles out don't throw any beer cans out the window 'cause they'll wack me on the head. Makes for some interesting radio traffic caught on the TV set.

My local airfield would have to be Mather field (formerly Mather AFB) which is in the dead of Sacramento valley, 20 or so miles east of Sacramento.  I've only actually flown out of it once, and it was in a Trinidad something or nother.  Good flight.

I have two in the area I have flown out of. The largest is KTOL with a 10,600' runway, 7/25 and a 5600' runway 16/34.
All of our commercial flights originate from there and has been used as a divert from KDTW when Detroit is shut down.

Operations get rather hectic at night as this is a hub for Burlington Air Express and traffic can get as congested as O'Hare at times.

The other field, KTDZ, is Metcalf field. It has a 5800' runway 14/32 and a 3600' runway 4/22. This airport was last modeled in FS2000 and to my knowledge is not in FS2002. The runways are not modeled in FS2004 but the support srtucture, buildings, control tower, etc. are. I am currently using AFCAD to put in in so I can fly my smaller aircraft from there.

I think my nearest 'real' airport would be Exeter (EGTE) although I'm pretty sure there a few smaller 'grass-strip' fields near me.

Nearest one here is CYXD.  Mostly general and charter aviation, quite awhile ago (before my having relocated here) it served as the main commercial airport for Edmonton.  Would have been interesting to see commercial jets using this airport - it's proximity to downtown (and size) are roughly similar to how Meigs Field has been modelled in FS.  Largest aircraft now flying out of here are C-130's, and the very occasional 727/737.
