Neither...!

I bought an empty case many, many years ago and just up-graded it as necessary with various hardware of my own choice...!

An excellent way of doing it if you can't afford to purchase the complete set-up in one go.... ;)...!
...also, it allows you to install only the hardware you prefer, rather than all the gumpf that the computer sellers wish to off-load onto you, often unsuitable, at great expense... :'(...!

Paul...My Computer? = All my own work!... 8)...LOL...!

I agree with Paul. Building a machine yourself is way more exciting and rewarding that buying one of those pre-assembled PCs.

I having HP prefer the way all HP products work perfectly together as one big happy family. In case of printers, scanners, etc etc, you can just connect and start going.

well, i'm stuck with my dell's now, which arent bad. but i'm taking A+ computer repair next year, so i can build my own. top quality stuff with discounts and no taxes (public HS)

so I can het a 64 Athlon FX for a fraction of what they sell on the maket.

what i was going to say was does anyone else have A+ cert.?

You don't need a Degree in Astrophysics to build your own computer, just a browse for info' on the 'Net, a visit to your local Library and a couple of Computer Magazines...and some common sense... ;D...!
The rest is fun, building, and learning... 8)...!
..and when the occasional problem pops up you don't need to shell loads of money out for an "Expert" to fix it for you... ::)...!
You sort it out yourself, and learn a bit more about it for next time... ;D...!
Have fun with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers... 8)...!

Cheers all... ;D..!

Paul.

Yeah, you take that screwdriver and short out the motherboard whilst power is applied! Sometimes it will make fireworks! Other times you will get a dud where you'll only get smoke! :-)

If you are going to buy one I would definately/seriously consider a dell over the hp any day..;-) I've seen hp's and dells with the same basic setup and the dells always win out in the performance category, and if you need help they have better service than hp IMHO...

Now keep in mind that I've never owned a store bought pc, it is very easy to build one, especially these day! ;-) used to be you had jumpers on the motherboard you had to set, fortunately these days there are seldom any jumpers and most things are plug&play which is very cool..;-)

and if you ever doubt your computer building skills and have a question, I'm sure one of us here could have you an answer within probably a few minutes! ;-) can't beat that! :-)

I'd seriously suggest you build one. It is surprisingly easy and there are plenty of forums on the net if you need help - and even here you'll be likely to get a problem solved. :)

what?

....I often wonder what a reply like that actually means... ::)... ;)...?

I was designing, and building radio transmitters and receivers, audio amplifiers, various electronic devices, etc, in my shed at the bottom of my garden when I was your age, (16)..... ;)... ;D....!
...so building a computer system was/is no great problem... 8)...!

Neither. I'm a big fan of the Rottydaddy AMD-based 2004... ;D
Use a Dell laptop at work, though (not mine), and it's OK, I guess.
