Well, he didn't kill himself or anyone else in the process of landing Doug... ;)
Mind you if it was his silly fault he smashed the wheel on takeoff then.... :-X ::)
Good job all survived ok though.

...well I think it was thought to be "heroic" that he managed (?) to take his passengers to a safe height to jump before attempting to land and save his own neck...maybe heroic is a bit over the top but it's a matter of opinion and you know the British media...never ones to play things down where a story is concerned......commoner  ;D

The pilot did what he inevitably had to do - can't say he really had any choice in the matter... Typical press over excitement ::)

...that's quite a regular occurence with me and my little Cessna 152... :-[...!
I've now mastered the tricky landings by crapping crabbing the aircraft, and touching down on one wheel before gently lowering the aircraft onto one wing tip without too much damage... 8)...!
My insurance company is slightly impressed... ::)...!

Paul... ;D...!

comm....Why does the Manchester paper take a fortnight to download on 56k...
..and being a Yorkshireman, why aren't you reading the Leeds Tribune...?
LOL...!

I saw a Chipmunk land on one leg once. This was at a race meeting at Thruxton some years ago & I'm not sure what it was all about now. The Chippie flew low over the car park & hit one of the parked cars. One leg went straight through the windscreen which tore it right off. Unfortunately there were people inside the car but I think they were more shaken than hurt. He made a brilliant landing though with very little further damage to the aircraft. Not sure who the pilot was or what happened to him. It all added to the excitement. ::)

PS. At least I don't remember anyone calling him a hero. More like a bloomin' idiot. ;)

Hero is the new media buzzword Doug, it means someone who is doing the job they're paid for ;D
Alas we live in an age of mediocrity, the true heros are all but gone now, people get their reality through the TV and never go out and do anything spectacular... I feel one of my mountain moments coming on, and this time I'm NOT going to sit on an ice-axe!

You got that right buddy! Seems here in the USA the person that out runs the bullets the best is called the hero. The person that fights back and beats the assailant to a bloody pulp is called lucky. Why, because they'll be lucky if the assailant doesn't sue them for assault and battery.

;D
