I used to get so frustrated with these things when I was a kid, but I picked one up last week, and have been working on it little by little, and Im having a blast! Its a Piper Cherokee 140 made by Guillows, all Balsa wood, and covered by thin tissue paper. Anyone else into building this kind of model?

lol, I would love to get a balsa wood model of a b-29, funny how the b-29 models are so large! :-)

 Hi Tacit...yes I am always dabbling in these kits along with the RC stuff I build and fly...the best kits I find are the ones by HERR I get them from Preston Models....they don't come cheap but the laser cut kits are a real joy..have a look here if you are interested...commoner  http://www.prestonmodels.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

I used to build & fly a lot of these kits when I was younger. Not sure I could do it now. It's a tad too fiddly for my liking & I prefer the bigger models myself. A lot of my friends still do it. I posted a few shots of the local indoor meeting in the Photos forum not long ago.

I can remember back long ago, my balsa wood, covered in doped tissue paper, models.
...Particularly winding the propeller up against the long internal elastic band, and watching the aircraft slowly collapsing from 18 inches in length to around 4 inches in length... :'(...!

Hey commoner, thanks for the link. I was thinking that this kit seemes kind of "cheap", the notches dont line up and stuff like that.

I researched a "sailplane" with about 8 foot wingspan recently and every now and then I look at the data, then my cheque-book, then consider my levels of skill and patience and file it away for a while.    I have some young relatives that I would like to encourage into the hobby, anyway it would be a great winter project..........watch this space.
